Iowa Community Betterment Winners Announced for 1972
Governor Robert D. Ray named Grafton St Ansgar Leon Granada Keokuk and Ottumwa among fourteen communities honored at the Second Annual Seminar and Awards Banquet held November 15 at Hotel Fort Des Moines. Prizes of 500 300 and 200 were awarded in four population categories for outstanding projects emphasizing park development surveys planning and community services with a Distinguished Achievement Award going to under 10000 populations for notable individual initiatives.

Ice On Overpass Accident near Rock Rapids
Fred Roths of Rock Rapids drove a 1989 Oldsmobile on Highway 9 when his car slid on the Latchwood overpass and hit the embankment. His sister Lillian was a passenger. both were taken to MPC Hospital for cuts and bruises as the Lyon County Sheriff investigated the Saturday November 18 incident causing about $1900 in damages.

Hudson To Open Nursing Home Dedication Weekend
Hudson plans the dedication of its new Colonial Manor Nursing Home for December 2 and 3 with tours 1 to 4 pm each afternoon and a dedication program at 1 30 pm on December 2. A special program is set for 4 3:00 pm on December 3. Leonard Dahl administrator says most equipment will be in place by weekend and state inspection is slated for November 21. The head nurse and head cook begin work then to familiarize with plans. The facility aims to match or exceed local standards with roomy rooms and modern communication center ensuring resident safety and comfort.
