In Rock Valley this Saturday night the Moonlight Madness promotion offers bargains and festive displays. The event features Christmas lights and an array of activities as part of the annual downtown celebration.
The Rock Valley Community school board met last Tuesday to review small projects. A drywell on the south side was completed and sidewalks north of the old building will be repaired. The board discussed bus use for a scouting project and rejected plans for a teepha electrical system. New adult education certifications are expected to be finalized next week.
The Rock Valley Community school board approved a policy to keep schools in session until 3 45 p m on severe weather days and, if needed, place rural students with prearranged Rock Valley host families or allow pickup by parents. A parent form requests designate overnight hosts in Rock Valley to prevent bus-related disasters.
Sioux County American Cancer Society chapter held its quarterly business meeting at the Dutch Mill Inn on November 3. Attendees from Hospers Granville Alton Rock Valley Orange City and total precincts discussed state conference repairs and reports on national cancer research projects and public education on early detection. Merchants may participate in this year’s Christmas drawings for Rock Valley shoppers by picking up entry forms at the Bee.
Approximately 30,000 deer hunters will hit the field this Saturday as Iowa opens deer season seeking the state’s largest game. Officials report 19,000 paid shotgun and muzzleloader licenses issued and over 10,000 free landowner tenant licenses issued.
The Hege Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual bazaar and bake sale on Saturday December 2 from 9 to 1 at the old library. Donations are welcome.
Rock Valley faces a decision on joining a proposed three county landfill scheme. City official Bi Ven Maanen says the council will wait to see if Hawarden starts its own landfill. If Hawarden acts, Rock Valley may join to share operating costs. otherwise it will choose between joining the regional plan or operating a separate facility.
