City Clerk announces bids must be received by tomorrow for the new Rock Valley police station project. Bidding interest appears strong with several regional firms expected to submit proposals. public session Thursday evening will open the bids.
Rev. William Ballard of Pioneer Methodist reports the UNICEF drive in Rock Valley last Wednesday raised 306 dollars. Children from most Rock Valley churches participated, aiding local welfare efforts.
A Burlington Northern freight train derailed near Alvord shortly before noon Friday causing a large wreck with about 85 cars on board. Officials estimate damage near 50000 with 75 loaded cars and two days of cleanup expected. No injuries were reported and a temporary by pass was set up for trains.
Rock Valley Police Chief Tom DeBruin had a heart attack last Wednesday at 3 PM in Frank's GW store and was rushed to the hospital. He then suffered a series of attacks in hospital but reportedly showed improvement by mid afternoon according to his daughter Mrs Delmar Raxeboom.
