City Buys Van Diel Building in council vote
In a special meeting last Monday the city council voted 3 to 2 to purchase the Van Driel building adjacent to the old city hall, a move tied to the proposed new fire station and rescue complex. Some members opposed the option on the building to guard against a bond issue failure, while others trusted the bond would pass with federal revenue sharing. The city will join the North West Town Council of Governments to guide regional planning and funding decisions for nine northwest Iowa counties. The council also bid 500 to the Milwaukee Railroad for land used in a L as a Hudson project, amid local complaints over property impact on the abandoned fire site spanning about 100 feet wide from Main to 10th Avenue.
