Iowa study prompts return of funds from banks
Three economists from Iowa universities reviewed the state treasurer Paul Franzenburgs deposits of 83.7 million dollars in 103 banks. They urged withdrawing the funds citing a small maximum state interest rate and questioned whether keeping funds would aid the Iowa economy enough to offset a projected annual loss to the treasury. They noted Iowa lead in regional income gains and urged policies balancing liquidity with credit needs.
