Bedell Attacks Higher Corn Price Supports as Inadequate
Iowa Congressman Berkley Bedell contends Secretary Earl Butz’s recent increases in target prices and loan rates fail to cover production costs. He cites 19 cent corn target rise to 1.57 and loan rate up to 1.25, plus 2.50 for soybeans, warning of embargo risk and hard times for Iowa producers next year. He notes target prices guide disaster payments and drought scenarios. Steve Kooima named Hull High senior of the week, active in music and choral groups.
