Retail Sales For Year Third In Sioux County
Rock Valley merchants finish the fiscal year third in Sioux County retail sales per Iowa Department of Revenue figures. Rock Valley had 106 businesses with gross sales of 14.995 million and sales tax of 219,135 for the year ending June 30, 1971, compared to 109 businesses and 19.831 million in gross sales the previous year. Sioux Center leads with 142 businesses and 28.041 million gross sales, tax 266,851. Orange City second with 133 businesses, 28.027 million, tax 261,562. Other towns follow in order of taxed totals.

Girl Scouts Plan Sale of Cookies This Week
Rock Valley’s five troops of Girl Scouts and Brownies will participate in the 1972 cookie sale starting March 11. About 80 girls will canvass Rock Valley neighborhoods with varieties such as peanut butter patties, chocolate dip, Thin Mints, sugared shortbread, and chocolate mint sandwiches. Each box sold earns a bonus for a girl and offers a chance to earn credit toward her fees for the Camp at Camp of the Hills. Project mothers listed include Mrs. Leonard Van Noort, Mrs. George Moldie, Mrs. Gerrit Bakker, Mrs. Bradley Baunis, Mrs. Hale Pember and Mrs. Harold Ten Heken.

Two Local Cars Collide in Rock Valley Saturday
A Saturday Rock Valley crash caused $250 damage. Hein Kesters of Rock Valley, driving west on 38th Avenue, and Raymond Kempema, traveling south on 1711 Avenue, failed to yield and collided. No injuries. Kesters’s 1971 Chevrolet and Kempema’s 1963 Ford sustained $115 and $75 damage respectively. Kempema was cited for failure to yield the right of way. police investigated.
