Bakers Observe Golden Wedding Anniversary

Friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter Baker to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary. The Bakers farmed in the Rock Valley area before retiring to their Rock Valley home. They are parents of three sons Bert Gerrit and Peter and have eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Kathy Splear Returns Home After Hospital Stay

Kathy Splear seven is the daughter of Robert Splear. She has been hospitalized since January 15 after a car train accident that killed her mother and grandfather. Kathy returned to Rock Valley Friday to live with her grandmother Mrs William Ver Muth and is recovering with fractures and injuries noted but improving slowly.

John T. Dykstra age 74 died Saturday at Rock Rapids hospital. Funeral held March 3 at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev Cammenga. burial in Valley View Cemetery. Survived by wife Ziena two sons Theodore and Gerrit one sister and 13 grandchildren. The couple celebrated Golden Wedding anniversary Feb 23.

Educator to Speak to Teachers in Rock Valley

Mrs Dorothy Brazzle chief of research and information for the Town State Education Association will address the Rock Valley Education Association meeting at Rock Valley School on Wednesday March 10. The talk titled IPERS will begin at 4 pm. Fire at farm prompts quick extinguish near Simon Groeneweg

Fire crews answered a call at the Simon Groeneweg farm last week after a heat bath exploded and lit straw. Tk was put out with little damage. The American Legion Auxiliary meets Tuesday March 9 in the VFW hall at 8 pm. A Bootworm central meeting is tonight in the VEW hall at 8 pm, sponsored by Farmers Elevator. The Iowa restaurant association hosts Coffee Day for retarded children on March 5 to benefit the Iowa Association for Retarded Children. The Guild for Christian Service will meet at the First Reformed church Thursday at 1 30 pm. The Woman's Society of Christian Service at the Methodist church was postponed.
