Residents report blocked highways and delayed access during the storm while trucks and locals discuss options. Highway crews and town workers receive praise for snow removal as churches announce upcoming Lenten midweek services with the Hidden Glory of God meditation theme.
The United Appeal drive ends for 1965 with Settlers township incomplete due to bad weather. A later statement will publish figures when the drive concludes. Totals show Salvation Army 599.05, Sioux County Retarded 296.30, Iowa Children's Home 370.55, Iowa Society for Crippled Children and Adults 327.90, with additional donations listed.
Friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter Baker to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary. The Bakers farmed in the Rock Valley area before retiring to their Rock Valley home. They are parents of three sons Bert Gerrit and Peter and have eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Kathy Splear seven is the daughter of Robert Splear. She has been hospitalized since January 15 after a car train accident that killed her mother and grandfather. Kathy returned to Rock Valley Friday to live with her grandmother Mrs William Ver Muth and is recovering with fractures and injuries noted but improving slowly.
John T. Dykstra age 74 died Saturday at Rock Rapids hospital. Funeral held March 3 at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev Cammenga. burial in Valley View Cemetery. Survived by wife Ziena two sons Theodore and Gerrit one sister and 13 grandchildren. The couple celebrated Golden Wedding anniversary Feb 23.
Sioux Electric Co operative Association schedules its 28th annual meeting at Northwestern College auditorium in Orange City on Wednesday March 10 at 10 30 am Chairman Albert Barhalter will preside with reports from officers and committees. Three directors will be elected for two years.
Dean Patterson of the University of South Dakota will be the guest speaker at the Rock Valley Community dinner Tuesday night March 9 at 7 00 pm in Hans hall. A Plan for Prosperity film and other entertainment are planned with local organizations and ministers invited to attend.
Iowa Sixth District congressman Stanley Greigg will attend a Village Cafe news conference in Orange City on Monday March 8. He will meet editors at 9:00 a.m. with a public discussion to follow from about 9:20 to 11:00.

Mrs Dorothy Brazzle chief of research and information for the Town State Education Association will address the Rock Valley Education Association meeting at Rock Valley School on Wednesday March 10. The talk titled IPERS will begin at 4 pm. The ISEA research division under Mrs Brazzle handles salary and legislative studies and works with the professional relations division on teacher welfare programs. Joe S Glanzer president Rock Valley Education Association leads local arrangements.
Fire crews answered a call at the Simon Groeneweg farm last week after a heat bath exploded and lit straw. Tk was put out with little damage. The American Legion Auxiliary meets Tuesday March 9 in the VFW hall at 8 pm. A Bootworm central meeting is tonight in the VEW hall at 8 pm, sponsored by Farmers Elevator. The Iowa restaurant association hosts Coffee Day for retarded children on March 5 to benefit the Iowa Association for Retarded Children. The Guild for Christian Service will meet at the First Reformed church Thursday at 1 30 pm. The Woman's Society of Christian Service at the Methodist church was postponed.
A mother daughter team opens the Golden Flame beauty salon at 1703 Main Street West Rock Valley. Mrs Mary Scheffer and Mrs Imma Ver Meulen, trained in Sioux City and LeMars respectively, received state licenses last year and this week's public opening features door prizes and gifts for customers.
