Winners Of Poetry Contest At Local Schools Named

Poetry contest results from Rock Valley and a Christian School list winners by grade with captions of Superior Good and Excellent awards. Notable names include Peggy Van Maanen Cheryl Bolkema Bud Vail Pam Van Zanten and Joella Altena Julie Rasder Cindy Berkenpas Sandra Joffer and Jane Scheffer among others with grades from first to sixth.

Grand Opening Draws 2000 Fans to Farmers Elevator

More than 2,000 visitors toured the new Farmers Elevator Co facilities at its grand opening last Saturday with Owen Mashing praising the turnout. Lunch service ran briskly as over 200 pounds of hamburger and 2,000 buns were consumed, 190 pounds of popcorn popped, and coffee gallons poured. Fort Dodge traveler Gordon Appel was named as the farthest guest. Prize winners announced include A J Hoogendoorn, Arlena Ransehau, Mrs. J Vande Weerd, Mrs. Connie Bakker, and several others for a range of items from electric knives to tool kits and a thermometer.

District Forensic Contest At George Saturday

Local youths from Rock Valley at Western Christian earned ratings in oratory storytelling and acting. Joan Gaalswyi Diane De Zeeuw and Da Vande Kerk received I ratings while another cast member earned a 1 rating. The school total included nine superior ratings.

Hera Memorial Names Highly Qualified Hospital Administrator

Hera Memorial Hospital announces the appointment of George Griffith as chief administrator. Griffith, formerly at Community Hospital al Surdo, has a background as a laboratory and x ray technician, extensive professional memberships, and roles on finance committees. Annual Sioux Electric Meeting Planned in Orange City

Sioux Electric Co operative Association schedules its annual meeting for Wednesday March 5 at the College Auditorium in Orange City. Officers and manager Eugene Mulder will present annual reports. Teachers Base Pay Up $500 At Rock Valley School

The Rock Valley Community School board approved a $500 base pay raise, moving base salaries from 8100 to 8600 and increasing step four with BA and MA degrees. A $1,000 cap per teacher next year accompanied the move, and a new hospitalization premium plan with a $100 limit was adopted.

Gordon Eastman Show Plans Band Benefit March 15

Gordon Eastman brings latest film Challenging the Northwest Territory to Rock Valley gym on March 15 at 7 30 pm. A US minute band concert opens the program under Harlan Vandeferg. Engine Testing Class Enrollment at NIVS Still Open
