Construction Starts On Several Rock Valley Projects
Several construction projects began in Rock Valley last week including a golf club house, a new motel and street program. The club house block laying is by Marion Harmson of Rock Rapids with Rock Valley Cement and Tile as subcontractor. The Alay Mechseks are building a four unit motel near their Drive-In site. Hamman Construction is the contractor. They aim to finish by August 1 with air conditioning, free TV and hot water heat. Figures appear in an advertisement elsewhere in the Blue.

True Bell landed a 4044 pound catfish in the Sioux I River near Fairview last week Monday. The fish stretched 4742 inches long and required help from Newman to hold it for a photo.

Following a long struggle to lead the fish Newman entered the water and netted the catch. Nels Broughton of Canton, 5. D. helps present the scene as Mr Bell, an avid sportsman, reflects on his years of fishing and other sports. In 1964 Bell won the South Dakota catfish championship in the Johnson Hardware fishing contest, a prize that included a two person vacation in Minnesota which he declined. He hopes to beat his recent haul in future trips.

4-H Dairy Is First At Sibley Dairy Days
The Sioux County 41H Dairy Judging Team won top honors at the 4-H dairy judging contest held during Sibley Dairy Days. Members were Darry De Groot Hull Kim Van Pearsem and Bill Vuieistra from Orange City. De Groot was high individual with Vietstra and Van Pearsem second and third in 4-H division. The contest drew 4-H teams from Northwest Iowa and Minnesota and was coached by Herb Dodds CEA.

The annual field day at Doon Experimental Farm is planned for an afternoon event from 1 30 to 4 00 PM on June 4. Rock Valley Sales Jump 26 Percent in Final Quarter
Funeral services for Frank Middle 65 were held at Porter Funeral Home with Ellis Tyson officiating. Burial was Valley View cemetery. Middle born November 13 1900 at Perkins married Tina Vogelzang in 1922 they retired to Rock Valley in 1964. Survivors include two sons two daughters brothers and a sister with five grandchildren. Also notes a 26.02 percent fourth quarter rise in Rock Valley business in 1983 versus 1964 with uncertain figures from tax division and market context.

Easton Enters Air Force Pilot Training at Webb AFB
Lieutenant Gacy Easton of Houston Texas begins a year long Air Force pilot training program at Webb Air Force Base Texas. He will receive silver pilot wings upon completion and was commissioned after Officer Training School at Lackland AFB Texas. Easton is a Spencer High School graduate with a BA from Morinyside College Sioux City. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha. His wife Karen Moore Easton is the former daughter of Clifton Moore. The Eastons have two children Douglas Todd and James Scott and were stationed in France for three years before returning to the United States February of last year.
