State Award To Dykstra Recalls Fire Service Career
C Dykstra Rock Valley fire chief for 35 years will receive the Ecara Governor's award for outstanding service Friday June 16 at 1 30 p m during ceremonies at the State Fire School in Ames. Nominated by local firefighters, he recalls early days with horses and hand pulled hoses and notes his volunteer crew grew to 46 over the years. He also runs Dykstra Motors in Rock Valley and has been active in church and civic groups. The award follows a long service marked by numerous fires and rescues and today the department handles about 26 calls annually.

Summer Band Concert Rehearsals Set for Rock Valley
The first rehearsal for the summer band concerts is Tuesday June 20 at 7 80 p m in the high school band room. Additional rehearsals are June 27 and July 21 at 7 30 p m with concerts on Saturday nights starting June 24 July 1 and July 16 in downtown Rock Valley. All current students and alumni, plus past graduates, are invited to participate, and the school will provide reeds and some horns.
