Summer Recreation Registration and Program Details

Registration for the Summer Recreation Program is on June 7 from 1 to 4 at the town hall with a one dollar entrance fee. The program runs June 16 to July 29, including Youth Day on July 30, and features staff for boys baseball and softball, arts and crafts, girls softball, and storytelling supervised by a library board.

Peace Lutheran Bible School Begins June Nine at Rock Valley

Peace Lutheran Church seven miles south of Rock Valley announces Vacation Bible School to run Monday June 9 through Friday June 14. The program targets children entering grades 1 and up this fall. Injured in Cycle Mishap Near Rock Valley Friday

Henry Brinkman, son of Mr and Mrs Peter Brinkman, suffered a bruised hip in a motorcycle crash five and three quarters miles north of Rock Valley Friday evening. Dennis Lange of Rock Valley drove the cycle northbound when a tire blew causing the accident near Shednirot around 9 45 p m. Brinkman spent the night at Begg Memorial Hospital for treatment. Cycle damage totaled 50 dollars. Lyon County highway patrolman Wayne Jepsen investigated.

Rock Valley and Boyden Hull Golf Tie in Nine Hole Match

Rock Valley High School and Boyden Hull golf teams tied after nine holes with five players each. Medalist was Jay De Zeeuw of Boyden Hull at 46, followed by Lyle Slevern and Gary De Bruin of Rock Valley at 47. Other Rock Valley scores included Doug Smith 52 Rich Wilson 52 and David Bacall 51.

Bauder Hired as Fieldman for Farmers Elevator

Dwayne Bauder named fieldman for Farmers Elevator Co. of Rock Valley announced by manager Owen Manning. Bauder, a Rock Valley native, graduates of Rock Valley School and Iowa State University, majors dairy science with training in beef pork and poultry. He and wife Karen Timmer reside in Rock Valley and will assist farmers with feed fertilizer and management questions.

Trip To Lake of Woods by Locals

A group of about a dozen fishermen from Rock Valley and Doan area left Sunday for Lake of the Woods. Tom McGill local lawyer and group member reported choppy morning water but later fished several miles and caught about fish. The party is staying at Jones Resort in Bauderee and will return Wednesday. Next week the Bee will publish a firsthand report by participant editor Jim Wilson.

Library To Be Open On Fach Afternoon In Rock Valley

The Rock Valley Community Library Board announces new afternoon hours from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and evening hours Saturday 7 to 9:40 p.m. effective June 2, 1969. Shelving was expanded and a children's corner added. Plans to enlarge the library are under consideration by the town council. Librarian Mrs Bill Buckley urges school children to visit regularly. Parents are urged to enroll four to years old children in the summer recreation story hour led by Miss Diane De Zccin with two one hour sessions over six weeks.

Rockets Fall To Boyden Hull In Lopsided Opener

The Rock Valley Rockets were routed 11 runs to 0 by Boyden Hull in the opening game. DeBerg pitched for Boyden Hull with several Rock Valley baserunners cut down by walks and miscues. Kersbergen started for Rock Valley, lasting four innings before reliever Van Beek faced trouble in the sixth as Boyden Hull pulled away with multiple hits and scoring opportunities.

Rock Valley Racket endgame and JV loss noted

In Rock Valley a late rally clinched victory as Gary Van Beek and Doug Van Cort were waived and Rich Wesselink was hit by a pitch. Henry Brinkman fanned the final out after Van Beek was thrown out stealing, ending the game. Earlier the Junior Varsity lost 10 to 0 with Mart Linhoe starting three innings and Jim Schleiz finishing. Gotzecran held the Rackets to one hit as Rock Valley left with 2 runs to Boyden Hull 13. A pie social and bake sale by the Young People’s Society of the First Christian Reformed Church is planned for June 7 at the Roorda Building to fund attendance at the Calvinist Convention in Colorado.

Accountant of the Month honors Darrel Kooi at Necleton College

Darrel Kooi son of Mr and Mrs Lewis Kooi of Alard was named Accountant of the Month for May at Necleton College in Sioux Falls. Gary Endort presented the award at a student body assembly on May 29. Kooi is a 1968 graduate of West Lyon High School.

The Rachel Circle met on Tuesday at 2 30 p m. Mrs Ted Kooiina led devotions and the program covered Bible Lesson VII. Mrs Tony De Bey shared the Spiritual Life Thought as Mrs Davie Wesstlink played piano. Hostesses were Mrs Gemit Van Holland and Mrs Tony De Bey.
