The Rock Valley Post Office opened on the corner of 15th and Main next to the old Roorde Machine Shop after a year of construction. The flood comparison notes 1969 spring flood gave warning yet 1970 flood struck at night with little time to prepare, leaving evident damage.

Rock River floods and post office opens new building
Rock River rose eight feet reaching 13 feet before dropping to about 5.75 feet. The Rock Valley branch of the U S Post Office moved into a new building south of Reads Machine Shop on Main and Summer 15th. Construction bids were let in 1989 with a 2 15 year lease. The post office opened to the public at 8 20 a m Monday with Julie van Holland as the first customer. The dedication will occur later. FW provided flood lights for the front sign.

In Sioux County primary results Gerit Brands outdistanced Peter W. Timmer by 140 votes for Fifth Dinict County Supervisor. Timmer earned 391 votes to the incumbent's 531.
