Rouse Named Northwest Iowa Livestock Specialist

Géne Rouse has been appointed Northwest Iowa Extension area Livestock Production Specialist and Area Extension Director John Johnson announced. Rouse, from Olivia Minnesota, earned a PhD in Animal Science and Livestock Production from Iowa State and holds a MS in Meat Science from Iowa State University. He will teach short courses and coordinate programs for ten counties with headquarters in Spencer.

Red Cross Tutor Conducts First Aid Instructor Course

Pete Ainsworth of Spirit Lake recently led a Red Cross First Aid Instructor Course for 16 at Hawarden Community Hospital. Of 15 students, 13 hailed from Sioux County, with George Klebhesbeinink of Orange City previously the county’s sole certified instructor. Red Cross classes for police, fire, and emergency vehicle attendants will be offered locally.

Enrollments Open For Adult Ed Classes

The Adult Education Department of Northwest Iowa Vocational School reminds area residents that enrollments are still open for summer classes in Typing Bookkeeping Office Machines and Shorthand from June 7 through July 40. IPS Announces An Ecology Move

Iowa Public Service announces plans to install electrostatic precipitators at major generating stations to cut soot by 99 percent. The $8.15 million effort targets Units at Neal Station in Sioux City and Maynard Station in Waterloo, with all three devices 80 percent efficient and ready by November 1972. Coal use at several plants will be discontinued or reduced, switching to natural gas and oil for standby or during gas shortages, with mechanical precipitators during coal operation periods.

Sioux Homemaker Wins 1971 Rural Honor in Siouxland

Mrs. Arthur Bauder of Rock Valley is named Sioux County Rural Homemaker of 1971. She and her husband will be hosted in Sioux City by the Chamber of Commerce with other county winners. The Bauders are active in Peace Lutheran Church, 4-H, and local extension groups.

Car Hits Deer on Highway 18 Near Rock Valley

An Inwood driver Dennis James Faber with a 1970 Chevrolet struck a deer on Highway 18 about 2 1/2 miles west of Rock Valley last Wednesday morning at 12 50 am. Vehicle damage was estimated at 3350 dollars.

Sioux County begins the 1971 Mr Hope Chest Appeal as the Northwest Iowa Chapter marks 13 years. Tony De Bey says a record number of Rock Valley volunteers will canvass neighborhoods and rural areas to collect donations with 60 percent staying for patient services and 40 percent for research.

Brownies Get Pins Wings and Sashes Fly Up Ceremony

Four Brownie scouts earned pins and wings at a May 25 ceremony held at the Roth Valley Community School old gym. Twenty Brownies advanced to Junior Scouts after the Brownie Fly Up event, which included a hosted lunch and the distribution of sashes and wings.
