Rouse Named Northwest Iowa Livestock Specialist
Géne Rouse has been appointed Northwest Iowa Extension area Livestock Production Specialist and Area Extension Director John Johnson announced. Rouse, from Olivia Minnesota, earned a PhD in Animal Science and Livestock Production from Iowa State and holds a MS in Meat Science from Iowa State University. He will teach short courses and coordinate programs for ten counties with headquarters in Spencer.

Red Cross Tutor Conducts First Aid Instructor Course
Pete Ainsworth of Spirit Lake recently led a Red Cross First Aid Instructor Course for 16 at Hawarden Community Hospital. Of 15 students, 13 hailed from Sioux County, with George Klebhesbeinink of Orange City previously the county’s sole certified instructor. Red Cross classes for police, fire, and emergency vehicle attendants will be offered locally.

IPS Announces An Ecology Move
Iowa Public Service announces plans to install electrostatic precipitators at major generating stations to cut soot by 99 percent. The $8.15 million effort targets Units at Neal Station in Sioux City and Maynard Station in Waterloo, with all three devices 80 percent efficient and ready by November 1972. Coal use at several plants will be discontinued or reduced, switching to natural gas and oil for standby or during gas shortages, with mechanical precipitators during coal operation periods.
