City committees organize the Summer Recreation program with dates to be announced soon. Registration will be held Saturday at City Hall from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Activities suggested include baseball softball tennis and baton accent. Those unable to register Saturday may send a card to Summer Rec for registration fee student assistance.
Five thousand eight hundred forty residents in Sioux County answered the Manpower Questionnaire by May 27. Among them 550 juniors and high school students indicated interest in full time work or learning about the Manpower Development and Training Act. The study team, based in Orange City, conducts interviews and tests through June 8 and will expand to Rock Valley for June 9 and 10 with mobile visits to Hull, Sioux Center, and Hawarden. Open house in Orange City June 8 and a mobile schedule will be announced next week. Residents may call 737-4506 for information.
A Sioux County Democratic Woman's Club convened and elected officers at a recent meeting. Alton president Mrs. Fraters Pohlen and deputy officers include Mrs. William-Calsbeek secretary Mrs. Iton and trustees Mrs. Gerrit Rens and Mrs. Jake Van Die men. Attendees from Rock Valley listed with several other members. next gathering set for Alton on Monday in June.
Rhode and Michael McNamara among 317 graduates to receive diplomas at Augustana College Sioux Falls on Sunday June 5. Baccalaureate services at 10:00 a.m. with Rev Erling H Weld of Grand Forks delivering the message The Challenge Pins Security. Commencement at 3:00 p.m. with Honorable Hilbert Schauer of the state Supreme Court giving the address. Mrs Lewis H Rhode to receive Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Michael McNamara to receive Bachelor of Arts in English.
David Nelson, senior at Morningside College in Sioux City, has been invited to join the men's honor ary society Blue Key. The announcement was made during Honors Day convocation in Allee Gymnasium Friday morning, May 8, with Nelson the son of Rev. and Mrs. Mervin Nelson.
Mrs Viola Klein vacationing in California was in a car collision on her way to Tulsa to visit her sister. The car was rear boosted. injuries to Mrs Klein and whiplash to a passenger Mrs Batl Heffernan of Rock Rapids. Both were treated. Klein’s address listed at St John’s Hospital in Tulsa.
Four 1964 Sixth District Republican hopefuls endorse Wiley Mayne of Sioux City for the 1966 primary. Endorsements include Dr John Powers Estherville Leonard Anderson Lee Wallin and former Rep Charles Hoeven. Mayne cites broad backing as proof of a united push against a financially irresponsible government under the White House.
Northwestern Bell filed with the Iowa Commerce Commission to cut long distance rates, with total statewide savings projected at over 3 million annually. The changes, effective July 9, include lower intercity rates, minor exchange service reductions, a new INWATS plan, and a 15 cent intrastate collect call surcharge, plus expansion investments totaling more than 118 million dollars in Iowa.

Orvan Maun and Peter Vande Velda traveled to Storm Lake Michigan on Thursday to take a driver test. The four hour exam covered harness racing rules equipment use and types of horse shoes. The license allows Mouw to drive at all county fairs and Vande Velie to drive at all raceways upon one year fair experience and a clean driving record.
Seven young people were confirmed at Lutheran Church on Sunday May 29. From Our Saviors Lutheran Church the confirmands were Gayle Klein Rhonda Rhode Curtis Van Ness and Fimil Wagner. Peace Lutheran confirmands were Priscilla Franken Keith Reid and Dorales Schoellerman. The service message was Be Strong in the Grace of Christ by Rev Alfred Kaupins.
The Rock Valley Men's Bowling Association met recently and elected officers for the 1966 67 season. Merl Meerdink was chosen president with Herm Ranschau as secretary treasurer and Bob Kaufman as director. Directors named were Carl Nagel Emil Lan Charles Gayex and Onyin Muuw. A special meeting will be held in August.
The Rock Valley Saddle Club held its first horse play of the season at the local grounds on Monday with 18 trophies awarded across seven events. Ron Hendricks led in charge as the club showcased 16 year class winners and various handicap, doubles, and derby results with strong turnout and national anthem led by Devin Mouw.
Pool opening postponed as water must reach 68 to 70 degrees and air temperature a 7 degree rise. Repairs completed, pool repainted, lessons for Rock Vat Toy residents resume June 27. Instructors and lifeguards named, registration under way, season tickets listed elsewhere.
Bill Schleis and Gerrit Van Maanen of Farmers Elevator Co will attend an employees meeting of the Felea States Organization at Varation Village from June 13 through 15.
Mrs George H Van Beck presents her piano students in a recital on Saturday June 4 at 2 00 PM at Haas Wall. Participants include Karen Prussman Bradley Kooi ma Nelya Groeneweg Carla Graders Beverly Vonk Mary Pat McGill Michael Mouw Brock Graders Terry Bauman Dennis Vonk Denise Van Den Top and Wanda Burgers. Mary Pat McGill and Terry Bauman also perform a duet. The public is invited to the recital.
