Track Season Resume Two New School Records Set By Com School Thinclads

The Rocket thinclads finished the 1987 season with Evert Jounstra setting two school marks in high jump and mile, plus strong showings by Dean Landegent Peter Van Noort Jerry Abra Chick Wits Dave Sur Gere Buckley and others. Rock Valley sent two boys to the State Outdoor meet while returning lettermen and eighth graders boost next year’s outlook.

City council awarded curb and gutter contract to Stadarm Construction of Sioux Falls for 67 714.50 and Eberlein Construction of Luverne for 67 829.06. Town Road Builders of Des Moines won the blacktopping bid at 31 910.06, with Robbit Construction of Esther Ville bidding 33 355.00. Work to begin June 6 for curb and gutter, July 5 for blacktopping. completion in August. Everett Blankespoor visited in the Dick Bakker home at Alvord for a few days.

How To Enroll in The DHIA Program

Ray Whitmore of Iowa State University explains that DHIA stands for Dairy Herd Improvement Association and aims to improve herd production records. Southwestern College grants degrees at June commencement

Rebecca Berthelsen, daughter of Dr and Mrs H W Berthelsen of Rock Valley, is among 58 Southwestern College students to receive degrees at commencement in Winfield Kansas on June 4. She will earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.

New Operators At The Cue Take The Helm

Mr and Mrs Larson new operators of The Cue replace Gene and Pat Hoeben who resigned. Gene and Pat have long experience in the field reportedly starting at the Candle and Cue in Sioux Falls then managing The Cue at LeMars for about a year. Larson is an Alcrest SD native who served in the Air Force 1951 to 1955 and studied at a Sacramento junior college afterward. The Larson family includes Cindy 10 Butch 8 and Tanya 5. They rented a home on Highway 18.

Keeling Leadership Award Established by Iowa Dairy Groups

The Ralph Keeling Leadership Award honors the top Iowa dairy leader of 1967, to be presented at the Iowa Dairy Convention in Des Moines on October 16. Keeling, a Des Moines dairyman, helped form the Iowa Dairy Industry Commission and the American Dairy Association of Iowa, chaired the Iowa marketing board, and served as a legislative liaison. SGT. Savings Bond Sales Report for Sioux County and Iowa

Donald M Hop of Grange City reports April sales of Series E and H United States savings bonds in Sioux County totaled 46155, building a four month county total to 211620 or 26 percent of the 1967 goal. Iowa’s April sales reached 38694422, four month total 28426197 at 42 percent. Lyon and Decatur counties each lead the state with 69 percent of their yearly quotas achieved.
