Community informed on hospital progress and future steps. Board doctors architects and contractor praised for design and construction. About 30 days to finish. then three weeks for assembly furnishing stocking shelves inspections licensing and related tasks.
The Rock Valley Betterment Council met at the home of Charles Gayer with six members present. They discussed mosquito spraying, starting a hospital auxiliary for Hegg Memorial Hospital, fluoridation of the city water, letters to congressmen and public safety agencies, and electrical outlets at the city park for overnight campers. Don Klein will host the August meeting.
Eighty eight ladies from Reel Valley and nearby areas attended the Rock Valley Golf Club invitational. A one club tournament limited players to one club and a putter. Prizes went to Willy Kudrle Dee Gort Alpha Smith and several Canton residents. out of town guests praised the new course and clubhouse.
A two car collision occurred Sunday morning at 2:15 near Wasten Cafe. Officer Van Berkun investigated and reported damages estimated at 800 dollars to both cars. No injuries were recorded. Alex Heymen was cited for failure to yield. Frank Ver Muira drove west on Idth Street leading to the collision.
Forty one teams enter three subdistrict Pee Wee tournaments of the American Legion Ninth District July 24 to 29 with site matches at Kingsley Alton and Mapleton. Games are five innings with trophies for winner runner-up and consolation teams. Rock Valley Pee Wees enter Aub-dismice tourney at Alton with thirteen teams. champion and runner-up advance to Kingsley district next week.
On Monday three cars collided on a hilltop near Vande Kamp Road. Mrs Dykens rear ended a Sioux City car traveling north as another vehicle veered into a ditch to avoid the crash. Damage to the Vande Kamp car was about 750 dollars and no injuries were reported.
Chris Ranschau will celebrate his 80th birthday Sunday July 23 with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church basement. Attending will be his children and spouses, Art and Mrs. Walter Ranschau of Inwood, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Nerland of Pierpont, SD, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ranschau of Humboldt, SD, and Mr. and Mrs. Cuno Ranschau of North Hollywood, California.
The Little League All-Stars aged nine to eleven won three straight hall games. They beat Larchwood 9 10 4, edged Hudson 7 to 6 with a four-run final inning led by Tory Van Berkum, and topped Larchwood 6 to 5 in another dramatic comeback. Dave Hansen pitched both wins, gaining the series.
The Western Christian High School class of the 1970s held a reunion Friday night June 20 at the Holland House to celebrate the 20th anniversary of graduation. Fifty four graduates with their spouses gathered for dinner and shared family histories using portraits and an opaque projector. Dr. Rozeboom former choir director led the group in singing and most attendees are married. Rock Valley attendees included Esther Vanden doscy Roger Cleveringa Louise De Boer Donald De Wit Bernice Bolkemay John Ymker.
The Rock Valley Federated Woman’s Club will organize an auxiliary for Hegg Memorial Hospital. An organizational meeting is set for Monday July 21 at 8 p.m. at the hospital. Local organizations are urged to send two representatives. An August 7 open meeting will follow for all interested community women.
The Rock Valley area will see expanded parcel deliveries from five to six days within two weeks as of July 18, 1967, following a Post Office appropriation bill signed by President Johnson. The $8.5 million restoration restores six day service that was cut in May 1964, affecting nearly 5000 cities. Postal customers with motorized carriers already had six day deliveries and are not affected by the earlier cutback.

Two Alvord youngsters, three-year-old Darlané and six-year-old Myron Van Beek, narrowly escaped death when they locked themselves in the family car trunk around 4 p.m. Wednesday. Their mother, Mrs Mosviz Vir Beek, searched for them until the boys were found crying and shouting for help in the trunk. The siblings include a five-year-old sister named Joyce.
Mr and Mrs Klaas Hendriks celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their home on Sunday afternoon. Children Alfred Clausen John Hendriks and others hosted the event with grandchildren great grandchildren present from Minnesota South Dakota Iowa and Nebraska. Relatives friends and neighbors from several towns offered congratulations and gifts.
Hospital records show Van Veldhuizen Hull admitted Sunday July 9 and discharged Thursday July 13. Anna Keizer of Rock Valley admitted Monday July 16. Proverb about procrastination noted as a labor saving device.
Mrs Schroeder acted as a housewife from an agricultural area and spoke in Washington at a subcommittee hearing on migratory labor. She read statements from national church and women’s groups urging support for legislation protecting agricultural workers under the National Labor Relations Act. She cited efforts by women in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota and Alabama, and visited her daughter Ellen at Layla University in Chicago on the way home.
