Vandals Continue Harassment of City Officer
Repeated vandalism targets City Officer Larry Van Berkum with a beer bottle thrown through his home window. He saw a car depart and returned minutes later to show the damage to friends. He chased the suspects. driver and passenger fled while two occupants were questioned. Authorities say arrests are pending and one suspect previously jailed on a traffic count.

The Rock Valley Betterment Council met January 9 1869 at Red Rock Inn with eight members present. Dr C J Schroeder presided and the secretary urged outreach to dental schools and suppliers to recruit a local dentist. The group discussed a rock valley recreation area near the Van Zee pit and river, plans for a delegation to a county conservation board meeting, Big Sioux River dam proposals, new city speed limit signs, brochures about Rock Valley, and including Iowa Public Service Company REA and the Board of Supervisors in road corner lighting efforts. George John McCarty of Inwood Iowa is arrested on charges of stealing 1400 bushels of soybeans from Orville Taylor farm near Hartley. The thefts occurred December 1967 and January 1968 with 1100 then 200 bushels taken. Sheriff Sleeper led the inquiry with Lyon County and B.C. agents assisting.
