Woman, 19, Attempts Bank Robbery in Rock Valley
Judy Wallace of Des Moines entered Valley State Bank on Saturday and tried to cash a $50 check, claiming she had a gun in her pocket. Police detained her, no weapon found, and she was committed to the State Mental Health Institution in Cherokee. Charges pending. FBI and FDIC notified.

Sioux County Civil Defense ends first year with funds and ambulances
Civil Defense in Sioux County spent 8 659.02 in its first year but secured 21 194.31 in state and federal funds. Federal money offset 419.31 in general expenses and 21 000 for three ambulances while four 6 by 6 army trucks were loaned with an estimated value of 21 000. Director Verle Martineau reports expenses, plans a countywide disaster plan, and work on a county planning and operations course. The program established an Emergency Medical Program with four municipalities receiving ambulances or due soon and ongoing rescue training countywide.

Stores Open Thursday Night In Rock Valley
Thursday will mark the first evening Rock Valley stores stay open instead of Saturday nights. The retail committee chairman Bob Splear says several stores run special sales to ease the switch. Advertisements appear in this week's Bee. Stores will stay open Thursdays until 9 p.m and close Saturdays at 5:30 or 6 p.m.
