Army Private Richard P. Kaufman, 22, of Rock Valley, completed an eight week field artillery basic course on November 20 in Oklo. He trained in 105mm and 155mm howitzers and received instruction in M 60 machine gun M 79 grenade launcher and 8 5 inch rocket launcher use. Kaufman attended the University of Iowa and Northwestern College and holds a B S degree.

VFW Drives to Equip Sickrooms in Sioux County
The Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Sioux Center and Rock Valley sponsor a drive to purchase portable sickroom gear including wheelchairs walkers crutches hospital beds mattresses and washable covers. The equipment will be available for temporary use without charge to any resident of Sioux County, with transport costs the only exception. Representatives will seek county residents to receive signed letters from both posts officers. Equipment will be stored at a convenient local site and may be used in homes across the county by doctors or nurses. For member information, contact either post.
