Sioux County plans a 1966 budget totaling 71000 with 48100 to be raised by taxes, up from 4050 in 1964, and 38300 income outside taxation. Public hearing set for August 16 at the county superintendent of schools office in Orange City. board cites rising instruction and administration costs and reports a 1986 unencumbered balance of 4900.
Incumbent Judson Smith plans to run again for the Rock Valley Community school board seat in District 4. Septig is the only open seat this year for a three year term. Rural patrons north of Highway 1 may file nomination papers with secretary Mrs Carnet De Vries up to ten days before election day on Sept 13. Papers require at least 10 valid signatures.
The Bee reports Mrs Frances Ver Mulm and Mrs Catherine Flanagan have bought the lunch counter interest from Clarence Hoefert at Valley Lanes while Mr Hoefert continues to manage the bowling lanes in Hudson. Ver Mulm and Flanagan plan to offer lunches and beverages as before with open hours from 8:30 am to 12 midnight. The FPA chapter of Rock Valley Community School schedules its next meeting for Monday, August 18 at 7:20 pm in the Vocational Agriculture building.
Rock Valley Youth Day capped a summer of activities led by Mary Riessen with seven park events and a ball game. Highlights included a girls softball win over Larchwood, an all star baseball game, fire baton demo, Dialtones and Cymbalos performances, a kiddies parade, and vehicle, pet, and costume divisions. Frank McGill named Man of the Year by the Rock Valley Commercial Club.
A two vehicle crash near South Rock Valley Friday afternoon around 3 30 left Mrs Fayles in Methodist Hospital Sioux City with fractured ribs nose feet and kneecaps and possible liver injury. Her husband arrived from California while Vince LeMonds sister Déon is noted. Mr Roskam and Mrs Raskam are in Slotnr Valley Hospital Sioux Falls from Thursday August 12 1968.
Report describes serious injuries from a two car crash near Carmel with Mrs Hoskam and Mrs Roskam sustaining cuts, abrasions, and broken bones. One vehicle was driven from the south, another north, and authorities pursue details on the drivers and vehicles involved.
Mike Keegan, son of Clarence and Mrs Keegan of Rock Valley and a Rock Valley Community High student, attends the first annual State College of Town Summer College Institute Art Camp from August 8 to 15 on the SCI campus. Nearly 90 high schoolers from 52 Iowa communities and three Minnesota towns study painting, ceramics, printmaking, exams, and jewelry in morning sessions taught by SCI art department stars. Students are housed in college dormitories.
Cloy Fey McKeegan 68 died August 6 in Sioux Center after a long illness. Military rites were given at St Marys Catholic Church Rock Valley with burial at St Marys cemetery. Survived by widow Rilla Leveng of Alden, daughter Margaret Whitehair of East Lansing, son James of Elmhurst, seven grandchildren, brother Stanley, and two sisters. He served in the U S Navy in World War I and was active in local farming and veterans groups.
