Arthur Art Ruiter takes the helm of Hope Haven's special education program as director of the academic program and staff. He holds a B A from Calvin College and M A and Specialist degrees in special education from Eastern Michigan University. He is also a certified speech therapist. The Ruiter family recently purchased a home at 2034 14th St and formerly lived in Lansing Illinois where he was principal of a private school for handicapped children in the Chicago area.

Fire Strikes At Collenbaugh Home
A fire of undetermined origin damaged the attached garage at midnight Tuesday on the Collenbaugh property. The Rock Valley Fire Department brought the blaze under control before the house suffered any fire damage. The owner moved cars from the garage and a convertible received paint spill damage to its finish.

Seriously Injured in Car Cycle Mishap Near County Road
Olwyn DeBoer son of Mr and Mrs Oscar DeBoer sustained serious leg injuries in a motor cycle car collision one mile south of town Tuesday evening. DeBoer drove a 1965 Honda west on a country road while Ronsid Jon DeWeerd of Sioux Center rode south on the blacktop. Deputy Darrel Roetman valued the damage to DeWeerd’s 1962 Pontiac at 500 dollars. DeBoer’s machine suffered total loss. He was hospitalized at Hegg Memorial then moved to a Sioux City hospital. the sheriff’s report said DeBoer will be cited without stating the charge.

Missionary Blanford Family Furlough Visit In Oregon
Reverend Carl E Blanford and his wife Lily Chia visiting Mrs Henry Ykema on a year’s leave from Thailand. The Blanfords formerly Muriel Ausiniy , a Bangkok missionary for 20 years, died in 1965.
