Paint-Up Week Cleanup Scheduled April 26 29 in Rock Valley

Next week is Paint-Up Clean-Up Fix-Up week scheduled April 26 through 29 by the Rock Valley Commercial Club. Town Council offers free pick-up for rubbish on four days with strict rules: place refuse in cartons at the curb, no alley pickups, papers boxed or tied, and wind concerns noted to keep the city clean and beautiful.

The 1964 Census of Agriculture reports 2438 farms in Sioux county and 2538 in Li County. It lists county averages such as 197.1 acres per farm and values for farm products, crops, and livestock sales in 1964 compared with 1959.

Funeral services for Jacob Van Den Top held in Doon

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Jacob Van Den Top 1 Doon who died Saturday at the Veterans hospital in Sioux Falls after a long illness. The Rev Robert Docker officiated at Porter Funeral Home with burial at Hillside cemetery. Survivors include Minnie Burgeraaf his widow a daughter eight sons and many relatives.

Meeting of Summer Recreation group planned for April 27

Rolland Mulder president will preside at the meeting to discuss summer program activities and elect new board members. National Library Week at Rock Valley Library

National Library Week April 18 to 28 highlights the local Rock Valley library. Mrs Walter Vander Well and Mrs H P Simonsen discuss reading 25 books, with library boards and clubs contributing to operations. The library, once the Literary Club, offers new albums and books including Diary of Anne Frank and PT 109, with hours, card requirements, and a nine-member board overseeing policy and acquisitions.

Ben Mulder Sr. rites set for Friday in Sioux Center

Funeral services for Ben Mulder Sr., 80, will be held Friday April 22 in Sioux Center. Visitation at Porter Funeral Home at 1:00 PM and church services at 1:30 PM at First Christian Reformed Church. Rev Leonard Van Drunen officiates. Burial in Valley View cemetery. Born October 5, 1883 in South Dakota, he married Anna Branston in 1907. He died Tuesday at Sioux Center hospital after a lingering illness. Survived by four sons and four daughters, 30 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Pallbearers include Ben Jr, Ray, Tom, and others. Music by local organists. Funeral details include long list of survivors and relatives.

Lynn Grove Band and Vocal Contests Set for April 23

The Lynn Grove event will host the Rock Valley Community School band and vocal groups with about 150 members. The band directed by Larry Mitchell performs in the morning, while Toren Pinkerman leads the glee club and choir in the afternoon. Earlier, a kindergarten round-up happened April 15, and a Christian school meeting showcased mothers and preschoolers with activities and health talks.
