Erie Pa Sept 18 Captain Nels Fase of the tug Harry G Barnhurst defied a signal to stop from the Canadian cruiser Vigilant in Lake Erie. After a volley from the Vigilant, a long chase ensued near the boundary line as Barnhurst crossed into Canadian water to escape with cargo and crew. One fireman fainted and several others were wounded by shell splinters. The tug sustained heavy damage with upper hull shot away and about 30 shots fired.
