Nov 22 Cherry Illinois reports two exploration teams found indications of living miners. Nearly 200 unaccounted for, with many believed alive. Surviving miner accounts and checks show air and water conditions, with a rescue under way despite fires and delays.
Cherry Illinois November 22 two major donors F W Mathiessen and Thomas F Noon led ten cities in La Salle and Bureau counties to raise nearly 50 000 in cash for destitute families. Cities starved Ottawa La Salle Peru Mendota Streator and others plus smaller towns added more than 10 000, with total cash relief expected near 65 000.
Rockford trounced Moline 28 to 2 on Saturday as the visitors struggled in the second half. Wyland of Moline limited Rockford early, but was ejected after a rough hit on a Rockford receiver. Carlisle’s improving condition was reported from New York hospital.
Cleveland November 22 Ty Cobb of the Detroit baseball team was fined 100 and costs for assaulting George Stanfield a hotel night watchman during Detroit’s last visit to Cleveland.
Naval rush orders were issued for the gunboats Paducah and Dubuque as they prepare to return to the Caribbean. The battleship Missouri was ordered to New York at top speed. Secretary Knox said inquiries will pursue truth about Grace and Cannon to determine reparations if warranted. Warships move toward Nicaragua as tension rises.
One hundred eighty three passengers and seventy eight crew members of the steamer St Croix arrived in Los Angeles after spending the night on a coast beach. The fire began in the engine room and no deaths occurred though six were injured. Survivors were aided by Santa Monica residents and police, with many spending Saturday night in barns and on Malibu ranches.
Theodore Rizzo, who killed Theresa Proco Pio seven years earlier and Freddy Infusino, a youth of 24, was executed at Auburn prison at 6 15 am after confessing to the crimes. He entered the death chamber calmly with a crucifix and received last rites at 4 am. Rizzo said farewell to fellow inmates and offered no message to relatives. He confessed Saturday night and expressed sorrow.
Louis T. La Beaume national secretary and treasurer of the Travelers Protective Association of America resigns as the board accepts it. A shortage of at least 27000 is reported in the books. He will remain with the organization in a mirror capacity. Records of head bookkeeper William Hendhen, who died by his own hand July 17, show a shortage.
Salinas California reports the heaviest quake since April 18 1905, shaking buildings for about 15 seconds and sending residents into the streets for safety.
In Washington Navy 22 Benjamin S. Cable, former general attorney for the Rock Island railroad, is expected to be named assistant secretary of commerce and labor within days. The appointment would follow the resignation of McHarg amid controversy over Ballinger policy. Cable, 37, is a son of the late Ransom R. Cable of Rock Island.
Delegates gather in Chicago and New York to review the government’s Standard Oil decision. Officials say a Supreme Court appeal will be filed while maintaining stock distributions to shareholders. Observers call the ruling a theoretical victory with limited practical impact.
Five injured in auto accident near Wyant as vehicle carrying a party from Kewanee to Cherry overturned. Injured include City Marshal P. J. McDermot Fire Chief James Pollock John Stevens Dr W E Washburn and son Raymond. All are expected to recover.

If authorized, 90 percent of 2500 workers may quit Friday or Saturday after a year end nonunion hire policy. Also report of Mrs Charles Maddox's sudden death in Kewanee while cooking dinner.
