Reports from Cherry Illinois tell of a mine rescue after a collapse. Initial calls said 150 alive, later 71 in the south wing with 67 in critical condition. Dawn brought more survivors and a steady stream of bodies as identification progressed.
New York reports that an appeal will be taken from the St Paul decision in the Standard Oil case to the United States Supreme Court. Missouri court ordered the Standard Oil company of New Jersey dissolved, finding it an illegal combination restraining interstate trade and enjoining defendants from continuing the monopoly. The decree targets John D Rockefeller and other executives, with 33 of 70 subsidiaries exempted. Washington officials hailed the ruling as a significant anti trust milestone. Attorney General Wickersham called it among the most important decisions against corporate monopolies.
London report says Consuelo, dowager duchess of Manchester, died early today of heart failure after neuritis. She had been ill for some time, with complications developing recently. She resided at Five Grosvenor Square and was attended by Sir Alfred Fripp. At her bedside were Lady Lister Kaye and Miss Emily Kznaga, her sister. King Edward frequently inquired about her condition.

Washington confirms the execution of Americans Leroy Cannon and Leonard Grace in Nicaragua after a court martial found them guilty of plotting to dynamite a government transport. A Nicaraguan legation statement defends the action, noting confessions and a presidential order by Zelaya. The vice consul cited opposition from military leaders, and China ships are mentioned as ready to cooperate with Des Moines in Nicaraguan waters.
Washington reports a sweeping reform in the customs service with Acting Deputy Surveyor James F. Vail removed. The delegates also attacked injunctions in labor disputes and supported Gompers on the Bucks Stove case, pledging salaries if jailed.
