Prince Wilhelm of Sweden married Grand Duchess Marie Pavlovna at Tsarskoe Selo in a ceremony marking a historic union between royal houses of Sweden and Russia. Emperors, dignitaries, and crowds attended despite heavy snow, with a state banquet and toasts to Sweden Russia relations. In Poughkeepsie Thaw case proceedings continued as Evelyn Thaw offered to testify, while transfer to New York was denied and hearing postponed.
London May 4 The petition of the Jewish colonial trust seeking court power to restrain its Palestine operations was dismissed in the court of chancery. The trust with 2,000,000 pounds capital aims to promote Jewish welfare worldwide. Managers argued colonization of Palestine and nearby areas was Zionism’s great ideal, while dissenters led by Israel Zangwill opposed limits.
May 4 report from Fortress Mendocino County says the Pacific squadron under Rear Admiral Dayton passed 9 miles north on the way to San Francisco at 8 30 this morning. W H Dilworth of Rock Island identified the body of Professor Carl Busch a college instructor killed by a Northwestern train near Sterling just after midnight. The German born former Antioch tutor had walked from Franklin Grove to Sterling and was struck from behind, hurling him 30 yards. He was past middle age and had been out of work. He had educated background and had tutored noble families in Germany before emigrating to America.
Delegates from this city including James McNamara C J Searle D H Smith and D G White travel to East St Louis for the Minors head camp meeting of the M W A with about 300 delegates. They will endorse Major C W Hawes for reelect ion as head clerk and a candidate for Director Reiley's post. The state camp has 108 delegates and convenes June 16 at Peoria.

A joint Rock Island and Moline local option meeting at First Congregational church drew 200 to 400 people. Resolutions urged county level organization and a May 14 meeting at the Y M C A in Rock Island to discuss forming a county league and sending delegates from existing local option groups.

A ferry on the Dneiper capsized near Bykhoff Mohiloff, drowning 120 people returning from church yesterday. The tragedy occurred as the vessel sank with worshipers aboard while crossing the river.
