Washington March 11 There is no economic need to drive workers to the utmost point harming health. The special committee report on Taylor systems says efficiency must not come at the cost of men women and children. It endorses standardization for productivity but warns against burdensome changes and stopwatch alone for judging a fair days work.
In Oakland on March 11 resolutions endorsing the recall of Mayor Mott and the city administration were adopted by a socialist meeting. They accuse the waterfront of aiding corporate interests and allege illegal awarding of a $500,000 contract for work on the new city hall.
Eddie Selwald, 19, son of a Brighton farmer, shot his companion Oscar Cook after a botched hold up in Valverde suburb. Cook killed Patrolman William McPherson and saloon owner A L Lloyd. Cook died later, Selwald fled. Cook admitted wounds were inflicted during the attempt.
Spencer R. Hill a prominent stock broker with Richardson Hill Co and vice president of Keweenaw Central Railway Keweenaw Copper Phoenix Consolidated Copper and Washington Copper Mining was shot in his Boston office by customer H Lewinski who was overpowered by clerks and handed to police Police said Lewinski fired after threatening to shoot the office and fired on Hill wounding him in the right breast. Lewinski’s mind was said to be unbalanced by stock market losses.

Montclair New Jersey March 11 Joseph and Angelo Picola two young men who for six years shined shoes in a railroad station here will this week begin the erection of a 25400 brick business block on Pine street. The building will be paid for out of the savings from their business.

Washington March 11 heavy earth shocks lasting about 25 minutes were recorded today by a seismograph at Georgetown university. The vibrations began at 3 35 o clock and the most violent at 5 40. Disturbances were noted 2 000 miles from Washington.
