A Manila bound pleasure launch with about 75 aboard foundered in a deadly typhoon en route to Corregidor Island. About 25 are feared drowned, including three Americans, with roughly 50 rescued by the British steamer Sugaric and an army surgeon reported among the dead.

Grand Junction Colorado July 16 Steve Adams a member of the Western Federation of Miners was acquitted of the murder of Arthur Collins yesterday afternoon. Adams alleged confession was excluded as evidence by Judge Shackleford and eight witnesses testified to his alibi. Cellins manager of the Smuggler Union mine at Telluride was shot Nov 19 1902 Adams left court with William Easterly and joined Mrs Adams at the hotel where she had been staying during the trial.
Hot Springs Va July 16 Judge Taft forgoes golf and exercise to complete his acceptance speech. He will delay recreation until the address is perfected ahead of the Cincinnati engagement on the 28th.
Denver July 16 Ernest Mills secretary treasurer of the Western Federation of Miners reports 5,000 members lost in the past year. total membership Jan 1 this year 38,116. unions collected 1,100,694 with 993,885 spent. 189,589 used for defense of Haywood Moyer Pettibone and Adams.
The United States government filed a petition in the Jamestown exposition federal court seeking priority as creditor for a $1,000,000 loan. It states a balance of $897,953.57 is due and argues the loan is a general lien beyond gate receipts.
Mystic Shriners finish business after the imperial council adjourned in St Paul. Nobles begin three days of uninterrupted pleasure as Minneapolis hosts visiting nobles and ladies for Zarah temple events. In Rapid City South Dakota a Democratic state convention nominated A W Clauson for state treasurer and a slate for secretary of state auditor and other offices.
London July 16 American athletes dominated field events with strong showings in discus hammer and shot put. Sheridan retained his title in discus, Rose won weight throwing for the U S, and Giffin, Horr placed well. Americans led overall in field events with 31 points, ahead of the United Kingdom. France Sweden and Greece claimed other medals as England won cycling and team events.
Giuseppe Alia, who assassinated Father Leo Heinrichs in St Elizabeth's Denver during communion, was brought to the death trap after he cursed the church and shouted Italian protestant slogans. He had been in Denver weeks, penniless, and claimed the chimes reminded him of supposed wrongs by the church. The case stirred Catholic anxiety worldwide.
