Boston reports Herbert Hill shot and killed his sister at her Duxbury home and probably fatally wounded his mother who protected the daughter. Hill fled the scene.
Deputy Sheriff Andrews pursued a demented woman to South Rock Island after a noon telephone report. The woman, identified as Minnie Alsbor, had occupied a residence as her family fled. She is believed to belong to Davenport and had been released from Mount Pleasant hospital after an earlier mental episode.
Indianapolis July 8 Senator Beveridge in Indianapolis denies any plan to run for vice president in 1904 and says he is content with Senate work. He dismissed a Chicago dispatch speculating Roosevelt would be nominated by acclamation and supported Westerns like Spooner Dolliver or Beveridge. W L Penfield, solicitor for the Treasury, visited Beveridge defending him to Senator Bailey.
Indianapolis reports Sergeant Julius Frederick, a Greely expedition survivor, doubts Major Andree was killed 300 miles north of the Hudson post. He expects the northern landing farther north to avoid Eskimo danger and confirms plans to start north next spring.
