Plot to Blow Up Fleet in Rio Janeiro Reported

A reported anarchist plot to destroy American battleships at Rio de Janeiro prompted police actions and several arrests. The conspiracy, centering in Rio and Petropolis with links to San Paulo and Minas Gerais, allegedly involved French or German anarchists led by Fedder. Authorities warned conspirators fled inland as the fleet prepared to sail.

Widow and four children murdered at Masselshell ranch

Lewiston Ont Jan 20 news from Old Bottoms ranch Masselshell ten miles from Mosby reports Mrs Slutter a widow of 40 and her four children aged up to 15 were murdered yesterday. The house and building were set on fire to destroy evidence. The motive is unknown.

Bryan and Sullivan Face to Face in Lincoln Meeting

In Lincoln January 20 William J Bryan and Roger C Sullivan Democratic National Committeeman for Illinois exchanged cordial handshakes at Rock Island Railroad Station. They praised prospects for party harmony ahead of the Denver convention and Sullivan signaled strong Illinois support with a promise to count on them. Bryan planned a Chicago trip but chose to greet National Committee travelers as they passed through Lincoln.

Annual Meeting of Dentists of Rock Island County

The Rock Island County Dental Society plans its annual meeting in Moline. A 2 p.m. clinic will be at Dr J I Griesing’s office, followed by a 6 p.m. dinner at the Manufacturers hotel with ladies adjourning to the Moline theater. Dentists will gather at the Moline club for the business session, then papers by Dr Schwartz and Dr Lowery of Chicago, with stereoscopic slide illustrations.

Inquest Held Over Greek Section Man Run Down

Coroner Eckhart presided at Wheelan rooms over the death of Paras Karas Adamis, a Greek section man, struck by a switch engine in Rock Island yards Saturday. Witnesses including Cott Norton Post Bender and Laux, plus five Greeks via interpreter, gave details. Jury verdict followed facts. funeral held this afternoon with services by a Chicago priest. A negro, who shot Alto Faulk in Dotham, was lynched by a mob of 200 in Montgomery. Faulk will recover.

Engine plunges off high trestle at Corydon Junction
