Washington dispatch reports insurgent Republicans in the House plan a meeting to counteradministration efforts to curb dissent. They vow to use any weapon, defend their independence, and resist patronage punishments amid calls for unity from Taft’s administration.

Members of the Switchmen union representing western railroads and the General Managers association agreed to submit their differences to arbitration under the Erdman law. In Washington the conference on the Northwestern railroad strike reported no new developments since last Friday.
Congress orders a broad public investigation into the Ballinger Pinchot controversy. A joint Senate House committee of 12, six from each, will probe the interior department and the bureau of forestry, with power to compel testimony and papers. The inquiry opens publicly in a large Senate building room.
New York January 5 F A Heinze pleads not guilty to indictments charging violations of banking laws and misapplication of bank funds as president of the Mercantile National Bank. A wreck on the B and O Pittsburg line left L N Barto dead and four trainmen seriously hurt with passengers injured.
A Baltimore and Ohio freight train collided at West Alexander causing damage and delays. Emergency crews responded and investigations began into the cause of the crash.
St Louis January 5 The appeal from the injunction of Federal Judge Mc Pherson restraining Governor Hadley and other authorities from interfering in the railroad rate cases was dismissed in the United States circuit court of appeals today No reason was given.
In Peoria Mrs Linton Davidson and two children perished in a fire that destroyed the Hovenden livery barn where they lived. Davidson escaped with injuries. an elderly man, Joseph Pacey, is missing and presumed dead. The blaze started from an overheated stove in the barn office.
Brussels report says Le Soir claims King Albert and Queen Elizabeth wed without constitutional approval from Leopold or Parliament. It argues parliamentary sanction is required and notes the government facing a crisis over royal legitimacy and constitutional obedience.

Kansas City Missouri January fifth 1925 judge Latshaw condemns two Black men George Reynolds and John Williams for assaulting Mrs W F Jackson declaring he will not desecrate the day by ordering a legal hanging and sentences them to be hanged on a future date.
New York Jan 5 The unloading of thousands of Rock Island common shares on the stock exchange pulled the price down from 54 1/2 to 50 5/8. The exact cause is not yet known.
Danville report states the well known circus trainer Tom During was fatally run over by a Big Four switch engine during training. In New York sugar prices rose with refined sugar advancing 14 cents per 100 pounds across all grades.
