In Logansport Indiana on August 20 Charles Morris a Pan Handle conductor and E R Runkle a telegraph operator were killed in a bizarre accident. Morris had been injured by a hand car in the yards and Runkle placed him on the pilot of a switch engine to bring him into the city. The engine ran fifteen miles per hour and jumped the track at a street crossing. Both men were thrown from the pilot and ground to pieces under the wheels.
