Widespread flood emergency across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio as the Mississippi and Ohio rivers rise. Towns like Cairo, Elgin, Shawneetown, Hickman, Evansville, Columbus, Dayton, and surrounding areas report levee breaches, evacuations, and looming breaks. Relief pledges and aid efforts mobilize, with hundreds waiting for food and thousands displaced.

Daytonians await forecaster Alpine's warning of a possible recurrence of food shortages.
Chicago April 4 Alleged dissension between Manager Evers and Cubs members peaked with the return from a seven weeks training trip when Trainer Semmens resigned in the form of a blow to the manager's jaw as the train pulled into the city. The Journal says the trip was not harmonious and that Evers struggled to control his temper amid numerous minor squabbles.
Darrow former chief counsel for the McNamaras left for Chicago after visiting his son in Colorado. His third jury bribery trial is set for June 16, and he says he may retire to a California ranch if not retried, turning to literature. Also noting the death of Bishop James Carroll of St Edwards and former Philadelphia mayor Charles F Warwick.
Luteville France April 4 Zeppelin IV landed yesterday amid French riflemen. It inflated and left for Germany at 3 pm. Eleven officers slept aboard last night as 50 sentinels guarded the craft to deter curiosity. The landing was explained to a French inquiry board, and the airship and crew were released after payment of 2000 francs customs duty.

Washington April 4 Charges regarding the moral conduct of a western state Democrat senator have been presented to US Attorney Wilson for investigation. A man seeking federal office claims the senator acted improperly with his wife and again at a hotel. the senator calls it blackmail and a political plot. No official action yet. Morgan Body on Ocean. Havre France April 4 The body of J Pierpont Morgan arrived from Rome and was transferred to the liner France for transport to New York with military honors.
Springfield April 4 The supreme court refused to decide which party is majority Illinois Republicans Progressives. Court denied motion mandamus prose and County Judge Allen instructed a Vermilion county commission member to name a party member. Chief Justice Dunne said it is a local matter with adequate remedy in local Vermilion courts.
In Sturgeon Missouri a tornado struck around 2 PM damaging Larrabee water tank wrecking boxcars and telegraph poles. About 25 people were seriously hurt and 50 barns and many houses were destroyed as families sought shelter in cyclone cellars. William Mathis and his wife and daughter were reported fatally injured.
A granite monument honoring early pony express riders was unveiled in Patee park St Joseph Missouri. It marks the site of the first express rider starting April 1 1860 and was presented to the city by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Charles Cliff of St. Joseph, a surviving pony express rider, unveiled the shaft. Congress man Ballard of Missouri gave the principal address. D. H. Winger of Clinton, Iowa, participated in the ceremonies.
Suffragist Virginia Brooks marries Charles S. Washburne, Chicago photography bureau manager. Ceremony at Washburne home follows a dramatic, newspaper led romance with a quick Ohio trip, a quiet witness list, and Brooks declaring she will keep her own work central in life.
Oyster Bay New York April 4 Maiss Ethel Roosevelt daughter of Theodore Roosevelt married Dr. Richard Darby of New York at Christ Episcopal church. Two hundred close friends and relatives witnessed the ceremony.
El Paso April 4 General Huerta agrees to name Pedro Lascuraín as provisional president to serve Madero's unfinished term. Lascuraín, ex foreign minister, is joined by a Huerta cabinet in a promised compromise. Carranza and Sonora forces reportedly to align under the deal. Huerta reportedly has about 14,000 troops nationwide as fighting continues. Washington says no withdrawal of Mexican border troops, war office vows to keep mobilization until a stable Mexican government is evident.
In Kankakee on April 4 the large bread making machine at the state hospital for the insane was damaged to the extent of 15000 dollars. Three thousand patients are today eating biscuits and ginger bread.
Riot at the Columbian Rope company plant in Auburn New York escalated as police recovered four prisoners who opened fire on strikers. Two dead including a woman and two more expected to die. Salt hurled by rioters blinded officers as about three hundred foreigners clashed. Mayor ONeill mobilized the fire department and state militia.
Washington reports near agreement on free wool and a very low sugar duty, with a projected $90,000,000 annual revenue loss offset by income tax. The plan introduces a progressive tax on incomes and a 1 percent corporate levy, exempting under $4,000 incomes, while exploring a temporary duty for sugar to appease southern growers. Both free wool and free sugar cannot pass together as talks continue between President Wilson and congressional leaders.
London reports warn rail lines to expect arson and bombing attempts by suffragists. Police seize two women Phyllis Brady and Millicent Dean for carrying incendiary supplies amid unrest. An explosive device was found under a car seat and an attempted blast at Oxted station caused minor damage. In Washington authorities await further UK findings on Zee Emerson's case and potential harm.
