Washington April 8 Democrats in the house ways and means committee work on tariff revision while finalizing the income tax plan. The proposal may raise the provisional rate to four percent on large incomes and relies on tax collection at the source to minimize direct taxpayer contact.
In St Paul Minnesota on April 3 Professor Oscar Olson former University of Minnesota Farm School faces trial for the murder of Clyde N Darling. Government witness A L Anderson testified Olson confessed saying he killed the man who wrecked his home and kept vigil over the body until police arrived.
Thomas Q. Seabrooke a well known comic opera comedian for 20 years died died in a Chicago hotel after a period of illness. His home was in New York.

Charles Pennington a former Bloomington grain broker was shot and killed by Harry Farrell a machinist in an apartment hall on Calumet Avenue Chicago He was mistaken for a burglar while staying with the Alford family on the second floor and entered the Farrell third floor flat by error.
Floods sweep Illinois with levee breaks near Meredosia and Brookport leaving 300 families destitute and 2000 homeless. Rations dispatched from Cairo to Brookport while Ohio and Mississippi basins show rising water and ongoing relief efforts. Local towns report strong currents and preparations for further flood control.
In Toulon on April 3, Lieutenants Lavabre and Adam and three petty officers were swept from the deck of the submarine Turquoise during Mediterranean maneuvers and drowned. Their bodies were recovered.

Senator Barr offered a resolution to appoint a committee of senators to immediately investigate the retaining walls of the sanitary district canal near Joliet and Lockport and report findings with speed. The channel holds a large body of water whose release would likely destroy life and property in Joliet and Lockport.
The text requests that the committee be empowered to administer oaths, take evidence, subpoena witnesses, compel production of books and papers, and employ engineers and other assistance as necessary.
The Chippewa River overflowed north of Eau Claire inundating hundreds of acres of lowlands. In Cobban, 28 miles north, 500 residents deserted their homes as water rose to the tops of houses. A thunderstorm freed ice gorges upriver, unleashing torrents, debris, and heavy property losses along the Chippewa River system.

Mrs Jean ette O Ferris of Michigan tells the Mississippi valley suffrage conference that woman suffrage was fraudulently counted out in the November election. Mrs Grace Wilbur Trout of Illinois argues that woman campaigners should be paid like men for political work.
Mainz approves 10500 dollars for flood sufferers in Washington D C. The American chamber in Paris sends 8000 dollars for flood relief and London’s American Lunch Club 1250 dollars. Regina Saskatchewan City Council adds 1000 dollars.
Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of militant suffragists, is found guilty and sentenced to three years penal servitude for inciting damage. The jury urged mercy, crowds protested, and she vowed to resist submission and continue the fight for women’s enfranchisement.
