Harvest Booms In Roblin District Despite Hail Hit

Roblin district reports above average grain yields with wheat 30 bushels, barley 40, oats 60 amid shorter straw and easier handling. A mid summer hail reduced acreage returns and labor is tight. Elevators cannot take more grain and rail cars are scarce, threatening storage and financing unless quotas rise.

Injury at Roblin stockyards prompts safety calls

M Spigelman and M Smith were injured while loading stock at Roblin stockyards when a shunting engine jolted the cars. Spigelman suffered a bruised shoulder while Smith fractured his knee and damaged his hips. Dr. Hicks treated them. The editorial urges installing a railroad crossing alarm and stockyard lighting, arguing the town’s busy stock yards warrant safety upgrades. Also noted is a separate event: a dance sponsored by the W.T. to aid the rest room, in Roblin on Thursday with 35 cent admission.

Harvest Accidents Reported in Rural District Sheds

Carl Lovas of Bield district was rushed to Dauphin hospital after a separator belt injured his arm in two places. Jake Smollinger Jr. suffered a serious tractor accident while moving two tractors on a hill, with facial injuries and multiple broken bones. he remains hospitalized in Russell.

Wheat Trading Halted and Pegged at $1.95 in Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Grain Exchange suspended trading as the Wheat Board prepares to market and distribute a first payment of 1.24 dollars per bushel for No. 1 Northern wheat in Fort William. This compares with the present 90 cents paid by the Wheat Board. Growers with payment and participation certificates from deliveries since 1940 stand to gain from recent price increases.
