Two Roblin-Born Men Enlist in Canadian Army

Russell Raymond Curle and Joseph Bernard Misko, Roblin-born, joined the Canadian active army on September 23 in Winnipeg. Curle, 18, was a truck driver at The Pas and Misko, a clerk at Gilbert Plains, before enlistment. Misko’s next of kin is his wife Mary Misko of Gilbert Plains, and Robert Kerr Curle is listed as Curle’s next of kin.

Terrier Flies With Bomber Daisy the pup joins crew

In a Wellington bomber crew of five a sixth dog Daisy joins as mascot. Daisy is a white and black terrier from Canada named by F.O. Robert Fletcher of Roblin Manitoba. She has 35 hours flying time and accompanied the unit on the United Kingdom to North Africa flight during operation Time 16 hours.

Roblin Flier Robertson Returns to Toronto Training

Robbie Robertson of Roblin Manitoba, a Royal Canadian Air Force officer with U S silver wings, trains at No 1 Initial Training School Toronto after serving two years overseas with United States forces in North Africa. He flew 40 successful missions at El Alamein Pantelleria Sicily and earned the U S medal and bar.

Shell River W I public meeting and bake sale notice

The Shell River W I will hold a public meeting in Balkwill Hall on Wednesday October 13. A bake sale and launch are planned at the Shell River bakery on Saturday October 9. A CCF public meeting is set for Friday October 15 at 8 pm in the school hall. Visitors welcome.

Mrs L Brazeau reports her son Lucien, prisoner of war in Japan, transferred to Osake Camp from Hong Kong via Geneva Red Cross. V-day is a public holiday on Monday. Bruce Shaw of the Manitoba War Finance Committee spoke at a Victory Loan sales meeting. Be honest and do your part to fight cancer Tag Day in Roblin this Saturday.
