The community pasture committee for the Cote San Clara pasture announces Manitoba round up on September 26 27 and 28 with cattle released to Manitoba stockmen on September 29 and 30. Arrangements exist for picking up cattle not located.

WMS Meeting at Mrs Souter's Sept 13 Knox Church

The September WMS meeting of Knox United Church met at Mrs Geo Souter's on Tuesday September 13 at 3 pm. President Mrs H Cross led worship on Our Needy Brethren. minutes, sick visiting report, and supply allocations were reviewed. Nine members and five visitors attended with lunch served by Mrs A Harrop and Mrs G Souter.

Yorkton Open Golf Tournament Sees Local Winners

Mrs Hargreaves visited relatives in Brandon returning with Mrs Tunninley and Stewart. Attendees at the Deer Park Golf Course included Norris Hargreaves Gordon Keast Geo Lehmaltz Ross Misener Geo Giles Harry Oliphant and Calvin Keast. Duck hunters urged to avoid stray buckshot in marsh safety display

A Manitoba Game Branch safety demonstration shows a three inch tree struck mid height by buckshot and a duck load tearing through a two inch plank. The display warns buckshot can ricochet off water, risking other hunters, and calls for careful aiming to prevent cross-fire.

Dmytro Matewish Dies After Long Illness At Zelena

Funeral services were held at Zelena Ukrainian Catholic Church for Dmytro Matewish who died at his home in Zelena on Sept. 23 1960 after a long illness. Rev Evonechko officiated with Sneath Funeral Service in charge. Interment was at Parish cemetery. Matewish born in Austria came to Canada in 1910, lived in Princeville and Zelena area, married Palanka Hawryschuk in 1912 and later Mabel Grace Collins in 1935. Surviving are wife four sons Walter Louis Ste Marie Ont Sam Winnipeg Peter Dauphin and Steve Roblin. seven grandchildren one great grandchild three daughters Dorothy Joyce and Mrs Jim Ready. one brother Richard in Australia.

Debenture Issue Sold by Intermountain School Division

The debenture issue for building schools in Gilbert Plains Grandview and Roblin was sold by tender to Osler Hammond Nanton Winnipeg for 839,695.50 plus accrued interest for 855,000.00 six percent debentures. Eight bids were received with the lowest bid accepted. The sale, handled by the Provincial Municipal Board, reduced the interest yield to 6.233 percent from 6.34 percent and lowers annual debt service by about 4500.00.

Makaroff United Church 50th Anniversary Service

The Makaroff United Church celebrated its 50th anniversary with a 2 p.m. service on Sunday September 25. Guest speaker Mr Brittain of Kamsack attended with assistance from Mr Blizard. A large crowd joined in a floral tribute to the pioneers and letters were read from former members. A history of the church was presented, and Mrs Elliott received a pioneer memorial basket during tea served by the Ladies Aid.

Home and School Association Elects Officers

The September meeting of Roblin Home and School Association featured "Meet The Teachers" night in Collegiate Auditorium. Principal staff were introduced and progress on the new school building noted. Officers elected include President F Eslinger and Vice Presidents Harper Simpson, with secretary M Campbell and treasurer Stella Peteleski.

Odd potato shapes resemble baby chicks found by farmer

Mr. George Ricker unearthed two potatoes on September 21 that grew into chick shaped figures with eyes and beaks though lacking legs or wings. The farmer notes they will still taste like potatoes when cooked.

Family travels to 1961 Ford car show in Saskatoon

Mr and Mrs P Nowosad and Frank Perry drove to Saskatoon on Sunday to attend the 1961 Ford car show and returned Tuesday. Mrs S Homeniuk remains a patient at Winnipeg General Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Eighteen Attend Ladies Aid Meeting at Knox Church

The Ladies' Aid of Knox United Church met at Mrs. George Souter's home with eighteen members and two visitors. President Mrs. Goodbun led the group in the W A Motto. Devotions by Mrs. McBain focused on the Total Mission of the Church.
