Obituary for Innstro James Puritch of Flin Flon

Innstro James Puritch of 201 Milton St Flin Flon died in his sleep August 24 at home. Born September 5 1881 in Toperover Austria he came to Canada 1899 and worked as farmer then hardware and furniture business in Esterhazy Roblin. Survived by Lena wife James son Aatun Lillian daughter Eugene granddaughter Sandra three brothers and one sister. He served as Chacer School trustee eight years and was active in Roblin church affairs. Pallbearers listed. Rozans Funeral Home and Sneath arranged services.

Funeral for Harry Cox in Silverwood Free Methodist Church

Funeral services were held for Harry Cox of Brandon Manitoba at the Silverwood Free Methodist Church. He died September 10 1960 after a long illness. Interment followed at Mount View Cemetery. Cox served in the Canadian Army and later did ministry work in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He is survived by his son Jack and two daughters plus nine grandchildren.

Shower Held For Marion Nernberg Bride Elect

A September 11 gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nernberg hosted about seventy friends and relatives for a miscellaneous shower honoring Marion Nernberg, the October bride elect. Activities included group singing, a skit titled Marriage in Primitive Times, a poem read by Mrs. Marshall, anecdotes, and a mock trailer of gifts drawn by a tiny bride and groom Donna Doering and Mervin Edel. Marion gave a brief thank you, followed by lunch served by the hostesses.

Since taking over on May 1 1960 in Roblin I have done my best to protect persons and property. I note lack of parental cooperation with youths and urge reminders that sidewalks are for pedestrians. Drivers ignore stop signs yield signs and double park on Main Street. Trucks lack proper lights require owner clearly painted on sides and addressed. School starts so adhere to school zone speed limits. Intoxicated persons on streets will be arrested. Prosecutions totals and fines are listed, total fines 535.00.

Hillsburg Council Seeks Grants for Road Improvements

Hillsburg Municipal Council meets September 7 1960 chaired by Reeve John Perchaluk with five councillors. They discuss requesting 60 percent grants from the Department of Public Works for 1961 road projects including bus routes grading gravelling near PTH 5 and multiple east of grid references, plus plans for a Shell River bridge south of 6-28-27W and a November 2 1960 tax assessment revision.

Manitoba Deer and Moose Seasons Set Across Regions

Manitoba announces deer season opens November 7 in southern areas with Area 1 and 2 north of The Pas opening October 31 and closing November 19. Southern zone may end November 19 or 26 based on game abundance. Early mouse season runs September 19 to October 15 in northern Manitoba. Moose and elk seasons run November 28 to December 10, with northern districts and Duck Mountains offering resident-only hunts and a single moose or elk limit.

Double Ring Wedding in Roblin at St. Matthew’s

Shirley Otke and Herbert Wildeman united in marriage at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Roblin on September 10. The ceremony featured solo pieces and a bouquet of bronze shasta poms. Attendants included maid of honor Gertrude Otke, bridesmaid Mrs Garfield Wildeman, best men Frederick Busch and Garfield Wildeman, and ushers Wilfred Wildeman Arnold Otke. After a reception in Roblin Memorial Hall the couple honeymooned and will reside in Fort William Ontario. Readouts include guests from Manitoba Saskatchewan Alberta and the ceremony notes.

Two Supper Dishes Demonstrated At Institute Meeting

The Roblin Women's Institute met at Mrs. George Kelso's home on September 15. President Mrs. T. Sanders chaired. Members discussed history project by Mr. John Arnott, voted $10 to Cancer Society, and planned notices for Extension Service courses. Demonstrations of two practical supper dishes were followed by lunch and accordion solos by Herbert Andres.
