Ladies' Auxiliary Meeting Seeks Support for Rest Room Project

Twenty three members attended the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion on September 13. Reports from committees were heard, including Welfare and Rest Room updates. The group approved a $10 donation to the Rest Room Committee for water works. Members canned fifteen cases of pears for hospital aid in September. An October Whist Drive is planned, with District Representative Mrs. Clapper of Bowsman attending. Local members encouraged to attend the October 11 meeting and lunch duties assigned.

Lutheran Mission Week Slated For Oct 16 20

Manitoba and Saskatchewan Lutherans will share their faith October 16 through 20. In the Assiniboine Area a mass rally opens October 16 at Roblin Memorial Hall with nightly services at 8 p.m. at Missouri Synod churches. About 2,000 Lutherans are expected to participate in this Preaching Teaching Reaching Mission led by Rally Chairman Rev Paul Borchardt. Rev Walter Wangerin will be guest speaker at the rally. A mass choir from 16 congregations will sing Dear Jesus Bless the Children. Guest missionaries from Alberta Ontario Wyoming Illinois and Nebraska will lead nightly services.

Initiation Day At Goose Lake High School Revival Ends With Pranks

Goose Lake High revived Initiation Day with a 1:30 parade through town led by Robert Arnott in a Scottish drummer, followed by staff cars, a borrowed army jeep, and a tugging out-house float. Sixteen junior girls wore men’s hats while junior boys wore dresses and nylons. The afternoon featured scavenger hunts, stunts, a muddy tug of war, and an evening dance ending with a court condemning unruly juniors and new staff members. Election officials announce Nomination Day for Tuesday October 1 1960 in Roblin Village and the Rural Municipalities of Shell River and Hillsburg. Mayor and council seats in Roblin and Shell River Ward 1 Ward 3 Hillsburg Ward 1 Ward 2 reassess terms with Nomination papers due by noon on October 1.

Roblin Teachers Local Elect New Officers

The Roblin Local of the Manitoba Teachers' Society held its 1960 reorganizational meeting at Goose Lake Collegiate on September 27 with 37 of 55 district teachers present. Officers elected for 1960 61 are President Miss Marie Campbell Vice President Mr Earl Ritchie Secretary Miss Marz Shura Public Relations Mr Yakimishyn. Next meeting October 25 and a reminder to reserve.

Lorraine Johnstone 42 Rites Held in Roblin United Church

Funeral services conducted at Roblin Knox United Church for Lorraine Johnstone of Bield Manitoba who died September 26 1960 in Roblin Hospital after a short illness. Rev. Ross Williams led with Sneath Funeral Service handling arrangements. Burial at Field District Cemetery. Pallbearers listed, survivors include husband Edward two sons Eldon Blaine daughter Ruby Manuel and extended family from Manitoba Alberta and British Columbia.

Mrs Souter Attends Unveiling Ceremony in Winnipeg

Mrs Geo Souter represented the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion Roblin Branch at the Unveiling of the Great Stone of Remembrance in Winnipeg on Sunday October 2. The memorial honors Sailors Soldiers and Airmen of the Commonwealth who are buried in Canada from the 1914 18 and 1939 45 world wars.

Tummel Ladies Club Sees September Meeting at Mrs Howe

The Tummel Ladies Club met at Mrs Irene Howes home with seven members and one visitor. A monthly card party was set for all winter starting in October, and plans for a ramage sale were discussed. The date for the October meeting was the 3rd Friday. Ross Misener Wins Roblin Golf Tournament

Ross Misener captured the Roblin Golf Tournament title at Yorkton with Gordon Keast finishing second in the championship flight. Vince Reyda and Alvin Bach won the first flight, George Schmaltz and Ike Beattie the second, and Walter Sorbo and Keith Alexander the third. the club planned a sand greens project at Roblin Golf Course for October 9th.
