Annual Meeting of Associated Hospitals Held At Dauphin
The North western Region of the Associated Hospitals of Manitoba met at the Boulevard Hotel in Dauphin on Monday September 10. Forty five representatives from hospitals including Benito Dauphin Flin Flon General Hudson Bay Mining Hospital Flin Flon Gilbert Plains Grandview Robin Russell S. Anthon's The Pas Ste Rose Swan River and Winnipegosis attended. Mr Frank Silversides presided and Mr Mobb erly welcomed delegates. Morning session discussed 1963 hospital budgets and salary issues. After lunch C C Hunt presented resolutions. Nominating committee chair Mrs Sims Rollin announced officers for the year: Chairman F Silversides Flin Flon Vice-Chairman W Ford Roblin Regional Representative C C Hunt Swan River Alternate Regional Representative Hall Benito.

Goose Lake School Enrolment Drops as Builders Hire New Beginners
Goose Lake School District sees enrolment fall from 441 to 432 after ten families left in summer. The board accepts seven beginners born after the cutoff to reach required teacher grants. Staff list covers grades 1 through 8 with principals at both ends. Improvements underway include roof replacement and interior redecorating. Two months of expenses include payments to Roblin Hardware, Macleod's, Gestetner Ltd, and the Department of Education among others.

Giant potatoes set provincial record with four pounders
Last Thursday, Mr. Mike Yakimishyn delivered a four pound eight ounce potato measuring 22 by 16 inches, likely the province's heaviest of the year. He noted others around four pounds. Mr. Earl Stauffer also presented a large spud at four pounds one ounce. Both potatoes could feed a medium size family.

Manitoba colleges enroll hundreds in teacher training
Some 500 teacher trainees began classes Tuesday September 11 at Manitoba Teachers College Winnipeg while 75 more enrolled in Brandon College elementary training. Hon S E McLean minister of education said all student teachers met the department entrance standard of a complete Grade XI.

Allan Maslove Wins Isbister Scholarship for District 2

Funeral rites for Fred Fedorchuk of Shell Valley
Funeral services were held at Shell Valley Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday September 15 for Fred Fedorchuk 63, who died in a truck accident near Shell Valley on September 10 1962. Interment was at Parish cemetery with pallbearers named. He was born Calder Saskatchewan, farmed at Shell Valley since 1916, survived by his brother Mike and two sisters.
