Lawrence Dietrich defeated Borden Hawryluk by 107 votes to become Roblin's new mayor, ending nearly two decades of mostly noncompetitive elections. Voter turnout reached about 60 percent as Dietrich pledged a learning first year and smooth transition. Hawryluk praised the experience and noted concerns over Wyredox status and slow town office response.
The community reacts with disappointment as Canada Post awards a retail postal outlet contract to Pat's Buy-Rite in Togo Saskatchewan. City residents had campaigned to save the revenue post office, while Canada Post cites renovations and a future opening likely by late November with six days of service totaling 54 hours per week. The Save our Post Office group vows to continue their opposition.
The Roblin town election produced Lawrence Dietrich as mayor with 528 votes over 421 for Borden Hawryluk, amid 60 percent turnout of 1,582 eligible voters. Ward results saw Lloyd Elder re elected councillor in Ward 4, Rick Hojnocki winning Ward 2, Julius Zimmer edging John Wagner by one vote in Ward 3, and Catherine Shymko defeating Bill Panasiuk in Ward 4. School trustees averaged 51 percent turnout across Intermountain Division No. 36.
More than 150 people attended Roblin’s first Ducks Unlimited fundraising banquet at Memorial Hall on a weeknight. Over $10,000 was raised through tickets, raffles, and auctions featuring items from prints to a Beretta shotgun donated by Cross Town Motors. The event boosted awareness of wildlife habitat preservation and DU Canada’s push to protect wetlands in Roblin and surrounding districts.
