Thanksgiving visits and local gatherings in Roblin district

District residents from Winnipeg to Roblin recount Thanksgiving weekend visits with relatives and friends. Many family groups, including Lows, Austins, Hamels, and Nevays, traveled to see kin in Yorkton, Outlook, Regina, Saskatoon, and Roblin. A United Church Thanksgiving service was held, with multiple social visits noted across the region.

Treat Cattle For Warbles And Lice Now Warn Manitoba Ag Group

Manitoba agriculture entomologists urge immediate post harvest cattle treatment to prevent weight loss and unthriftiness from warble fly grubs and lice. They recommend systemic insecticides Coral and Trolene for grubs and malathion spray for lice, with strict usage rules and a minimum 60 day slaughter interval.

Cromarty Community Committee Meeting Held

Cromarty Community Committee held its meeting on October 4. Regular meetings will be held every first Tuesday of the month. The group decided to paint the hall interior and repair doors and windows. R Harlow and J Perchaluk lead arrangements. E Baumung and R Watson to explore ceiling insulation. Mrs S Simpson to organize a cleaning bee. A whist drive is planned this month. Pastor Paul F Maassel of Williston North Dakota will speak at St Matthew Lutheran Church in Roblin each evening from October 16 to 20 at 8 00 p m He will address fundamentals of Christian faith in a talk to children and a Q A discussion inviting all to learn about Jesus who gave his life to grant eternal life

The Lutheran Ladies Aid of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church met October 6 at Mrs. C. Andres's home with nine members and two guests. Devotions led by Rev. P Borchardt and Mrs. Borchardt, business session opened by Mrs. C Andres, reports read and accepted, supper planning for P.T.R. Week by Edel Andres and Andres, mission dinner requested, closing devotion by Mrs. W Doering, lunch served.

Shell River Council Meets on Oct 4 1960 Actions Taken

The Shell River Council met Tuesday October 4 1960 with Reeve F H Wilson and all councillors present. Minutes from September were adopted, accounts approved, and cheques issued. Requests include PFIA inspections for multiple sections, 40 dollars in 1960 taxes for hall building, Soldier’s Tax Relief for Walter G Clement, road system additions to Market Road, and amendments to municipal and property acts. The 1961 assessment roll to be adopted subject to revision and a Court of Revision set for November 2 at 10 a.m.

Roblin election results elect mayor acclamation

Nomination day on October 11th produced F A Newton and Wm Ford for mayor of Roblin with Ford withdrawing, leaving Newton elected by acclamation for 1961 62. Ward seats saw acclamations and multi candidate races with Nowosad to sit on Intermountain Board by acclamation.

Thanksgiving Weekend Visits Across Manitoba and Beyond

Gardner Layton wedding tied in Saskatchewan vows

The ceremony joined Miss Ada Scarlett Layton and Daniel Bernard Gardner in a ring ceremony performed by Milton Swaren. The bride wore silk organza with Chantilly lace and a silk net veil, carrying a cascade bouquet. Attendants included Miss Pat Lauston and bridesmaids in turquoise gowns. The couple will live in Saltburn, Saskatchewan where Gardner works for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.
