Roblin Village Council Minutes November 16

The Roblin village council met with Reeve Rogers presiding and councillors Kines Thompson Nastrom Curle and others present. They approved minutes, discussed cancelling church property taxes at Deepdale, approved several payments to local contractors, and read by laws for land and hall read-through. The session ended with adjournment and reflections on provincial policy and road needs.

Premier Bracken Visits Roblin District

Premier Bracken spent a busy day in Roblin district meeting Rural Credit Society officials in the morning, addressing a Deepdale public meeting in the afternoon, and speaking at Roblin High School in the evening. He congratulated Miss Mabel Wright on receiving the Lieutenant Governor's medal for Grade 11 and urged youths to play the game of life while praising local district progress since his last visit twenty years ago.

Roblin Local Notices Highlight Bazaar and School Events

Roblin locals report the Women's Institute Bazaar on Saturday December 4 at 8 o clock and a big school concert December 16. An Electoral Constituency meeting will be held in Roblin with Red Cross clothing drive for children. Madame Simons will present a concert in Roblin on Friday November 26 at 7 30, admission 60 cents adults 25 cents children. Optometrist Chas Trebilcock will visit Dauphin on November 30 for eye tests with glasses sold only if necessary. A Returned Soldier church memorial service was held at United Church with sermons by G F Phillip and ministers Harv and Mephen. The annual sol meeting at school auditorium reported a budget of 76 195 93 and 12 teachers. 50 children enrolled. Ladies Aid performed Marthe Made Over at LOF hall with many named participants. Death reported for Mr Wm Sorochuk on the road to the Deep.

Councillor Dies After Illness Following Wheat Load

A Shell River councillor, aged under 43, collapsed after disembarking a wheat load and died at Mr Chas Middleton’s home. Dr Coppinger the coroner ruled heart failure. He served Ward 3 for two terms and was a candidate this year. The bereaved widow and family receive community sympathy.

Roblin Women's Institute Annual Meeting Highlights

The Roblin Women’s Institute held its annual meeting at Mrs W J Westwood’s home. New directors were elected: Mrs Lawrence, Mrs Nelson, Mrs Yeo, Mrs Newton, Mrs R. Scott, Mrs J. Adams, Mrs T A Cameron, Mrs Harvey, Mrs Westwood, and Mrs Greenaway. A Beethoven paper and piano solo followed a light lunch, with the December meeting set for Mrs J Nelson’s home. Christmas stickers supported the Junior Red Cross of Wog.

Mr W R Kaiser visited at Kamsack on Monday. Fred Allen visited Roblin last Thursday. Mr and Mrs Cecil Wager left for Tisdale Sask. Dave Hern of Hamiota visited district. J D Fogg and J H Abercrombie at Kamsack on business. Dave Mitchel returned home after months away. P P Ellitt of Winnipeg stayed with Capt D Sinclair. Dr G P Baker left for Duncan B C Wednesday. D Inman and Capt Donald Sinclair seek top prices for green spruce pulpwood. A dance at Davis Hall honored Mr F Rye leaving for Toronto. Rye received an address and club bag. Mr Vove offered a reply.

Grand Narrows MF Sidney Napper stayed with Mr Sloan for several days last week. Mr J Stevenson visiting old friends for weeks. Miss Orth spent a weekend in Togo after returning from Rivers. Miss Bessie Ferguson on a month long vacation at her home. Miss Ferguson trains as a nurse in Winnipeg. The Pie and Cake Social on November 19 drew strong support and praise.

Community groups report funds and upcoming meetings

The Boys' and Girls' Club closed its Winnipeg visit with $40.40 proceeds from a quick sale. A club meeting is set for Nov 30. A Sangster A.F.M. Dist Director visited Dau Phin to assist with the District UFM convention on Dec 16. New officers of the UFM Local pres J F Basso and VP T Burrell were elected, with several directors named. The WSUFM elected Mrs T Dixon as president and Mrs Wilson as vice president, with Mrs Walch as secretary.
