Local Women’s Society Seeks Christmas Cheer Fill Stockings

Under the auspices of the seven local groups the Local Women’s Welfare Society offers tickets at 26 cents each for a 1 Urucenes prize draw to raise funds for needy children. Proceeds fund Christmas cheer and clothing toys will be collected via the office or society nurses. Information on needy families may be sent to the office or given to a nurse. Contributions of clothing toys or cash are requested to help twenty one families to date.

Roblin locals report Mrs J A Williamson's Seattle trip for relatives. An electric light plant extension arrives, the rink opens next week with lighting from the town plant. Shell River Municipality election gave C E Rogers a majority. Bazaar planned by the Women's Institute with hot lunches for country schoolchildren. Merchants advertise high quality stock at fair prices, inviting local shopping to support town services. A Madan Simons recital featured piano solos and a butterfly dancer Miss F Roy, with certificates awarded for spianofori playing.

Mrs Jona Thompson Pioneer Dies in Roblin Area

Mrs Jona Thompson a pioneer of the Roblin district died Thursday night at her son’s home in Thompson after a long life. Born Helen Ann Boswell in Scarborough Yorks on week 11 1861 she married John Thompson in 1870 and moved to Durham Ontario then to Boblin Cromarty district settling five miles west of Roblin. Survived by nine children Joseph Will Mrs Wm Pitcher James John Mrs James Kingdon Walter and Arthur. Funeral held Sunday from her sav ed home to Roblin cemetery.

Local Notes from Grand Narrows and Alva

Mr and Mrs George Murray spent the week end with Mr and Mrs Burrell. A dance at Silver Wood Hall on the 26th drew many youths. Miss Margaret Burrell visited her sister Mrs George Murray of Alva. A Whist Drive and Dance will be held at UF M Hall on Friday Dec 8. At a UF M Local meeting on the 25th two delegates were appointed for the district convention on December 16.

Local Visitors and Community Notes Across Dauphin District

Miss Lucille Wells visited friends in Dauphin while Mr Jansund and Mrs Cooper with children visited the area last week. Mrs J McDuffe of Roblin renewed acquaintances in the district. The raffle quilt and cake weight guess by Mrs Ballard drew cheers. The Ladies Aid Bazaar and the play Sewing for the Heathen entertained, with musical numbers highly praised.

Orangemen Masquerade Ball with Kaine Kulberg Orchestra

A New Year Eve event at 1.0.C.F. Hall features a Masquerade Ball hosted by the Orangemen. Prizes will be awarded for the best hard time costumes and music provided by the Kaine Kulberg Orchestra.

Diversion Completed on Gatineau Valley Tracks

Diversion of six miles of Canadian Pacific Railway tracks is finished in the Gatineau Valley with three more miles being raised. The alteration affects Tenaga Kirk's Ferry La Charite Bennet and Cascades stations, and Farm Point will have track raising. Work has continued since April.
