Christmas Edition Submissions Sought by Roblin Review

The Roblin Review invites all ages to submit art or writing for a Christmas edition theme “Christmas In Our World” or “What We Have Too Much Of.” Up to eight pages of drawings will be printed, and literary entries may appear as space permits. Roblin council debates Canada Post outlet plan and holiday events

Town council discussed a Canada Post plan for a community retail outlet while weighing risks of closure or privatization. Town appoints fourth councillor for 1989 1992 term

Roblin's newly elected town council held its first meeting on Wednesday and welcomed new councillor Will Sutton while reappointing Betty Nykyforak and Randy Langstaff. After postponing committee appointments to fill the empty seat, the council adjourned to a closed session and later appointed Alex E. Mohr to the remaining seat for the 1989 1992 term.

Development office open on Mondays in Roblin

Rod Nasewich Economic Development Officer for Roblin and the Parkland West Region will be in Roblin each Monday assisting the Roblin Economic Development Committee with an economic development strategy. He will handle inquiries on new business start up, counselling and other forms of assistance from residents and businesses. In Roblin he works from the Town Office at 987 8333. When away from Roblin he can be reached in Russell at 773 3313.

Manitoba moves to modernize assessment act ambitions

Rural development minister Jack Penner introduced long overdue changes to Manitoba's municipal assessment act calling the package modern and capable of bringing the province into the 21st century. The proposal removes farm residence and outbuilding exemptions while shifting assessments toward actual market values and taxing all farm buildings. Local education and municipal taxes stay unchanged but farm tax shifts are likely as more properties become taxable.
