At a Friday afternoon crash at a Hospital Street and PTH No 5 junction a Regina semis driver Tracy Lewis and Frank Cooper in a pick up collided broadside. Cooper survived extraction with Jaws of Life and was flown to Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre where he remained in serious condition. Robin RCMP investigate causal factors.
Community petition led by Rev. David Jones swayed Saan Stores Ltd to discontinue Sunday hours at Roblin outlet. Leonard Dolezsard cited local travel to Yorkton and loss of business. Shoppers from Kamstock to Gilbert Plains praised Sunday access before reversal.
New owners of Manco Dairies say it is too soon to decide the fate of Roblin's butter plant. Saskatchewan Dairy Producers Co operative officials, after touring Manco sites since the takeover in early November, vow a facts based review with plant managers to keep operations viable.
Manitoba Telephone System outlines a $793 million Service for the Future program to remove party lines, digitize switching by 1996, expand toll free access to 597000 numbers in 234 exchanges, and raise basic toll rates from 7.70 to 10.60 monthly. The board approved accelerating Individual Line Service to 1989 and considers Community Calling Plus for adjacent exchanges. Long distance rate cuts and other support measures are proposed for October 1990.
