In the Parkland regional soccer tournament at St. Vladimir's College on October 29 Kelwood fell 4-2 in overtime to St. Vlad's. St. Vlad's beat McCreary 1-0 after a 0-0 tie through regulation and extra shots with goalie Chuck Machibroda stopping all five McCreary attempts.
Helen Hale will take affidavit of office on Wednesday to represent the ward. Kay Wagner leaves Ward 10 after a three year term and has moved with her husband to Brandon. Wagner served on Staff and Curriculum and Public Relations committees and thanked constituents, staff and teachers for their support.
The Assiniboine College inspected the old school this fall as a potential site for Manpower and Continuing Education. Alvin Funk seeks a meat cutting course and is advised to contact Joan Clement for funding options while the Continuing Education Department cannot finance it now. Approved courses include Sewing With Knits, Denim Sewing, Fit and Finish, Beginners Sewing, Knitting and Crocheting, and Know Your Car. The session, chaired by T Paley, drew Regional Co-ordinator Eugene Sembych, District Co-ordinator Hertha Schmellinger, seven committee members, and seven community members.
Ward 1 loses a rep with Leo Bangle departing and no filings leaving a vacancy to be filled by appointment. Garry Gaber, board chair, praised the board's unity and steady work as it looks to fill the Ward vacancy.
Ce visiting at the Oliphant homes and taking part in the invitational Bonspiel held over the weekend were Jim Quinn Allan Quinn Garry Schneider and Ken Brown of Flin Flon. The boys are all attending Red River College in Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Purdy of Winnipeg visited with her mother Mrs. H. R. Mitchell over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Boyce of Yorkton visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Boyce on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Kruger spent the weekend visiting their nephew and niece Mr. and Mrs. K. Zarn and family in Reston Manitoba. After spending four months and helping out with the harvest at her brother's Norman Kosinsky Tillie Tymbol returned to Toronto with her niece Stella Dennis of Port Perry Ont. Visiting with Norman Kosinsky and nephew Walter Chomsky is brother Jack and wife Lucy from Vancouver B C. Stella Dennis spent an evening with her aunt Nellie Blaine of San Clara aunty Anne Luz ny of Roblin and her aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Kereluk of Roblin Man.
On November 5 the Angels and Raiders faced teams from six towns in Grandview. The Angels beat Elm Creek, tied Fort Qu Apelle, and fell to Swan River, while the Raiders dominated Swan River Winnipegosis Russell and beat Rossburn in the finals to win the tournament for the fourth straight year. Medals were awarded and a trophy presented. Junior elections named Arla Murray and Debbie Andres to the student council. Next, Angels and Raiders host league games November 10 with Gilbert Plains Grandview and Dauphin, 5:30 to 10:30.
