Two Severely Burned In Fire Near San Chan Incident

On Friday November 3 near San Chan at Joe Lizotte's home a gasoline ignition while lighting the stove caused a blaze. Lizotte and housekeeper Leona Lavallee suffered severe burns. the house burned down. Lizotte died early Saturday at Roblin hospital. Lavallee remained in guarded condition in Winnipeg hospital Friday afternoon.

Knox United Church Leaders Host Youth Hay Ride

United Church of Knox United Church leadership under Mr. John Nesbel hosts youth meetings on Sundays. Friday’s event featured a hay ride with hot chocolate hot dogs and cake after at the church. Helpers included H Boughton civic cooks H Oliphant and others washing up. Tractor and gear loaned by H Dillin. HAROLD BRUGHTON reports a new Red River 68 hard red spring wheat variety. It is semi dwarf bearded and high yielding but not licensed in Canada, making seed sales illegal. Its milling and baking quality fail to meet Canadian standards, though tests are incomplete. Farmers may hear offers for sale despite legal and quality concerns.

No Formal Examinations Before Christmas At Roblin Collegiate

Roblin Collegiate announces no formal exams before Christmas for 1967-68. First term reports cover September 6 to November 28 with 60 percent from February 21 exams and 40 percent from ongoing work. Second term reports run to March 16 with daily work and tests. June exams remain mandatory for all grades.

Roblin Royal Purple Lodge Marks Tenth Anniversary

Members of the Order of the Royal Purple and Elks lodges gathered Friday in Roblin to celebrate the 10th charter anniversary of Roblin O.R.P. Lodge No. 210. Guests from Winnipegosis, Dauphin, Benito, Russell, and Swan River attended with special guest Supreme Lecturing Lady M. Gray. The event honored 28 charter members, 13 active, and noted $ thirty six enrollment with thanks to Elks for support.

Advisory Planning Commission Discusses Streets And Parking

Advisory Planning Commission discussed streets and parking at a Roblin meeting. A delegation from St. Vladimir’s College presented a land development plan to be studied by the Municipal Planning board. A map of Roblin is being prepared for the next meeting, with rezoning for a light industry use debated and 300 foot neighbor notices planned. A hearing on a proposed trailer court is set for Thursday at the Town Office. Parallel parking on Second Avenue North of Main Street was suggested, possibly as a one way street. The commission aims to begin long range development studies with a town survey.

Grade IX Public Speaking Competition Held November 6th

The Grade IX public speaking contest occurred November 6 at Robstin Collegiate Auditorium with thirteen contestants chosen from prior classroom eliminations. Topics ranged from Helen Keller to U F O s attitudes, with Robert Campbell winning and Patricia Daygon runner up.
