Roblin elects two town councillors with 43 percent turnout

In Roblin Manitoba the 1968 1969 town council election saw George Kostick top the poll with 280 votes and W E Nash second with 220 votes securing re election. Graham Mitchell and Harold Keast were defeated with 203 and 196 votes amid a 43 percent turnout of 490 voters from 1133 eligible.

Council Requests Manitoba Hydro To Install New Street Lights

Roblin Town Council met October 10 1967 with Mayor Newton and four councilors. They approved accounts for September, hired Nick Solotwinski as general duty man, and passed by laws to transfer two lots and rezone a block. They asked Manitoba Hydro to install and remove street lights on three street groupings with annual net cost 204.54 and approved several building permits and licenses.

Winter Courses Planned For Rural Manitobans

The Agricultural Extension Centre at Brandon offers winter short courses for rural Manitoba residents. Topics include farm management, money and credit, home economics, and church leadership. Notable sessions run from November to December with fees from 1 to 10 dollars and boarding options at 2.50 a day. Copies of the 1967-68 calendar are available from Mr. R. E. Forbes.

Order of the Royal Purple Notes Rummage Sale and Banquet

The Order of the Royal Purple held a rummage sale on October 14 with Mrs Rose Ziol kozki winning a cake drawn by Ella Paul. On October 18 members catered a Centennial Pioneer Banquet for twenty five seniors. The lodge sponsored a fundraiser raising 73.82 for the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society clinics in Russell aiding Roblin and district residents.

Obituary for Steve Demzhuk Born in Ukraine November 28 1886

Steve Demzhuk died October 27 1867 after a life spanning migration from Ukraine to Canada in 1911. He worked on a farm then on Hudson Bay Railway and retired in Dauphin then Roblin. Survived by one daughter two grandchildren two great grandchildren in Ukraine and one brother in Argentina. Pallbearers and clergy listed with thanks to family and medical staff.

Intermountain School Division Emphasizes Reading At Winnipeg Conference

Goose Lake Elementary principal Mrs B Davis and Goose Lake Intermediate teacher Miss L Boguski joined seven Intermountain staff attending a Reading Council of Greater Winnipeg conference themed Innovations in Reading. Dr George D Spade of the University of Florida addressed Manitoba teachers on an interdisciplinary reading approach, with over 300 attendees. The event at the University of Manitoba Education Building used closed circuit TV for full participation. Directors J Gibson and O Ziolkoski included the conference in their itinerary.
